I guess one could say what Colbert did on his - Colbert Report -
on Comedy Central.
When discussing how smart cultures and people's of a bygone
era with some New Yorks Times writer, and the name Abe Lincoln
came up.They decided that Honest Abe wouldn't do well in this
Modern Age.Wouldn't be nearly as smart as the norm,Today.
Because older folk and our Great,Great,Great Grandparents thought
in completely different terms.
So Colbert says what about Rich Guys. They're pretty smart, aren't
they ? And the Times Writer said, from his firsthand experience,Not
Really.So Colbert asks about I.Q.
Asks the Times Writer what his I.Q. IS.
The guy says ... " I really don't know ".
And Colbert jumps IN ... " Well I know what Mine is.It's an A.I
got a 95."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Whats Yours ?

Mine varies, depending upon which standardized test you choose to believe.

Years ago on the Stanford Binet, I scored a 132.
Two years ago on a web-based bit of cotton candy, (emode), I scored a 129.
On the Department of Defense General Technical (GT) many years ago, I scored in the 130's.
Otis-Lennon, 134.

I'm no Einstein, but then again I ain't flipping burgers for a living either.

I was tested in the sixties and had a 137. I remember being pissed because my younger brother scored 145.

I am probably much lower now because I don't exercise my mind as much. I waste far too much time posting with you guy and reading trashy books. I do still do the Sunday New York Times crossword in pen though.

When I was in 8th grade in Texas our physical science teacher told us they got back the IQ test scores but we would not be told what our scores were. I guess they did not want us to know back then. Anyway, I wanted to know so at lunch I went into his classroom and got into his unlocked files. Since I saw exactly where he put them after he told us we would not get to know the results. Mine was 124. Anyway I told a girl, a real hot one, and she wanted to know her score and then so did a few other people. So of course I went back and got a few other peoples scores. The hot chicks score was 147. She did not believe me. I remember one person's score was 79. Some other people wanted their score but I did not go back. I was lucky to get away with it twice.

I.Q.tests are somewhat Bogus.Because Real Genius is difficult
to compute.Most true Genius,may have an almost - Rain Man -{1988}
characteristic.I believe Einstein had trouble in school.I guess most
Savants have trouble with normalcy.

I believe the reason the teach would not give out the I.Q. results
were both Legal as well psychological. If a child did score badly, then
they may face scorn or teasing, and a parent might have just cause
to sue the school.
Because an I.Q. test would mdetermine something very objectively
that had nothing to do with school work or actuall ability in the class.
It could be used then SUBJECTIVELY to promote or demote certain
students, with no regard to classroom attendance, quality of work
and studies shown etc.A very damaging and BIAS approach to the
entire notion of school and learning.
Something The Third Reich would indubitably Favor.
And of course Hillary ... The Smartest Woman on Earth.
Maybe not dough. If We the People actually DID have Little Miss
Markers { Hillary } I.Q. score,think how much fun there'd be.

I have never used a pencil to do crosswords, Foolie. Ink is much easier to see than a pencil mark. I don't fill in the blanks until I am pretty sure what the word is so pen works fine. Of course I understand the people running the home allow you neither pens nor pencils so you have to do the crosswords in crayon. :hitout:

Nope, never had to take an SAT.

Maybe you haven't read a newspaper in your life. If you had you would know that while chalk shows up clearly against the slate of a blackboard number two pencil does not show up well against the color of newspaper paper. If you use a different pencil that writes darker it tends to rip the paper.

Pens, especially roller balls work best when doing newspaper crosswords.

I doubt you Pre-date the SAT.That might be in the 20's.
I also doubt that you wood score the Lowest possible score.
Which is a 200. An 800 being a prefect score for ONE section.
However there are TWO section being Math & Verbal. Each worth

No, there are three (Math, Reading, Writing) worth 800 each for a total of 2400. Been this way since 2005.

Incidentally, in reference to the original question(s), my IQ (as tested in 1994) is 144, and my SAT scores were 770 Reading (pre-2005 known as Verbal), 720 Math, 710 Writing.

I enlisted at age seventeen and left for basic training right after my eighteenth birthday. I was a Battalion Radio Chief with the rank of Sgt.

No, the G.I. Bill does not mean you don't have to take entrance exams for college but neither does it mean you must take entrance exams for entry into college. What criteria are used for admission is up to the college. It may choose to use standarized test and then again it may choose to not do so.

As for me having an above average IQ, so what. So do all the posters who have responded with their IQ scores. That should not surprise you since almost all the people posting here have either completed at least an undergraduate degree and in many cases a graduate degree or are presently attending college.

I haven't taken an IQ test (besides unofficial ones on the internet, about 120-140) since I was a small child. I have no idea what my score was but apparently it was high... I also went to a magnet program for gifted children in 4th and 5th grade and have been in "gifted" classes whenever they were offered. Of course there's also the fact that I started college at age 16, having not stepped foot in an actual school since 8th grade, and now have a 4.0 GPA after 36 credits. :D

Anyone interested in the subject of intelligence should watch this video. I cannot speak highly enough of the TED conferences, and anybody who cares to understand the world around them and wants to keep abreast of the fascinating new developments in science and the arts should start with that website, www.ted.com. If one listens carefully, one can actually hear the 'whoosh' sound of their minds expanding while they're watching the videos. They're that good.

She still beat me by half a second. That was a year ago, and I still can't live it down. :(

Speaking of Frogger doing crossword puzzles in pen, I do Sudoku in pen, always... even hard one's. Makes it more interesting. As for my IQ, I seem to be inadequate compared to all of you geniuses on here, I would estimate it to be in the 120-130 range. I've never taken a real IQ test, nor have I taken SAT's or anything of the like. I have taken random IQ tests online, however those sometimes vary wildly. Anywhere from 110-120 up to 180+.

My GT score is 128 according to my ERB.
