Oh, that's classic! Even if you're going to claim that politics had nothing to do with the awarding of the *no-bid* contract, why would you then award it to a company that has charged you $85 in the past for a sheet of plywood worth $15?!? If they screwed you before, why reward them with another big, juicy contract?

I'm not defending Halliburton, because they strike me as vaguely shady, but there aren't that many companies that have the size or ability to do what they're being asked to do. So the choices are limited.

Yeah, I've heard that. And I believe it. But it still seems like you would either try one of your other options, or keep a very close eye on them, which I guess they're doing if they noticed the overcharging for gas.

Haliburton are just the whipping post of the left - nothing more than that. Why do they have the bullseye over them? Because Cheney was the CEO - what better way to further the claim that the administration are crooks. It's just democratic baloney because they have nothing much else to attack. The democrats seem to have no opinion on any of the issues - it's just smear the other side as much as possible these days.

During the Viet Nam war, a company known as P A & E (Pacific Archetects & Engineers) was contracted to do much the same there as Haliburton is in Iraq. It was well known at the time that Lady Bird Johnson (First Lady) had significant ties to that particular company, but you didn't hear near the screaming about it. Was that because President Lyndon Baines Johnosn was a Democrat? That he was Saint John's successor? Were the journalists any less intelligent in those days?
Wish I knew.
