View Full Version : Insult me...

don't take this the wrong way Angelina, but maybe you should stop fanning the flames with this. If you go back and read both threads, after you left yesterday very little was said and people were there joking around and stuff.
You reply in both of them and I can guarantee by Monday morning it's going to be an all out war again.
Stating an opinion is fine, but when all it's doing is keeping something like this going, ask yourself,is it worth it?
If I responded to every little thing someone said about me or my opinions,I'd have been banned a long time ago.
But I would very much like to continue the debate in the other thread without all the insults. It is a very interesting debate afterall... I don't see any problem with doing that, why would there?

Like Frogger has said, you insult people's faith, you're going to get reactions. Definite trollish behavior.
I'd have to disagree with you here kimi. It's easy to claim that something that someone else said made us angry, or that insulting certain things will get certain reactions, but we are responsible for our own reactions, and we're certainly responsible for what we say to one another, regardless of any perceived provocation.
It has been said here, and I'm sure many Christians believe it, that atheists say hateful things about God, Jesus, and Christians far more than Christians insult atheists and their beliefs. This thread would seem to show just the opposite.
I would say that to avoid threads degenerating into insult fests, atheists need to be cognizant of the reactions they may engender with their statements and couch their phrases accordingly, and Christians need to be more Christian in their responses. :)

I will certainly try :)
But as the good men in the videos I posted starts their debate with, no matter how much you tone down your opinion when disagreeing with religion, the majority will always take offense. These guys are professionals in the area and has long realized this.

Yes, I appreciate the advice, and although I haven't been here that long, I have been in 100s of discussions about religion, science, philosophy and psychology before. The best way, so that you can keep debating in the topics who interest you, is to just ignore the morons and focus on those who actually can lead a meaningful debate. Which is what I intend to do.

Vile,
Despite Angelina's attempts to make it seem she was only voicing an opinion as part of a debate that is not what happened.
She posted, "God is a jerk", at the end of a post as an addendum whose sole purpose was to enflame.
You suggested that Christians in Allforums are as guilty as atheists when it comes to insulting the other group's beliefs. I have to disagree with you on that. Read the post of people like Freethinker in which believers are insulted left and right. Perhaps you, Prae and some other atheists do not deal in insults but that is far from universal in Allforums.
I don't think you will find many, if any, posts in which Christians insult atheists for their beliefs. They may dialogue with them concerning differences in belief but I don't remember a Christian ever saying all atheists are deluded fools or similar words.
The attacks on belief systems have come almost exclusively from the atheist camp.
Bye the way...........did you receive the package sent? It should be arriving any day.

I know SMW has, and then there's plenty of folk in the news like Fred Phelps and George H.W. Bush. Bush, you may recall, said that atheists are not citizens of this country.
I'm not defending insults, but I think it's silly to say that only one group of people has done it. The only person on this board who I can say has never insulted anyone else is Brooks. That's the only one I can think of.

Vile,
Despite Angelina's attempts to make it seem she was only voicing an opinion as part of a debate that is not what happened.
Perhaps, perhaps not. I understand that you, and some others found what she said to be offensive.
She posted, "God is a jerk", at the end of a post as an addendum whose sole purpose was to enflame.
Frankly Frogger, she doesn't strike me as someone who makes posts for the sole purpose of "inflaming" people. I do understand that some found her remark offensive, and I think perhaps she could have expressed herself better in this instance, but overall, she didn't hurl nearly as many insults as some others have in this thread.
The attacks on belief systems have come almost exclusively from the atheist camp.
That's because religious people are the ones with the rigidly defined belief systems. :)
I think another part of the problem is when a perceived attack upon God is responded to with an attack on the person uttering the blasphemy. It's difficult for an atheist to understand how a religious person can conflate an attack upon God as an attack upon themselves, and this leads to some confusion.
Bye the way...........did you receive the package sent? It should be arriving any day.

See what I'm saying? I'm apologizing, yet I'm being told it was a "fake" apology and I had evil intentions by attempting it. Now what am I supposed to do other than laugh and shake my head?
Oh, I know, Borg, can you find that /facepalm thingy with Picard?
Don't bother with it any more, Angelina. You are a lot like another poster, who you've heard of by now, Warrior. She was never wrong, either, and just couldn't understand how these mean people could keep responding to her hatefulness and whining. You've just become kind of a gnat-type, as far as I'm concerned. I don't like warring with anybody, so I'm through with this subject and with any interraction with you. It's a waste of energy and time, negative to boot.
I apologize to the rest of the posters for allowing myself to become involved in the nastiness. It's truly not my style. I would have never said anything if Angelina hadn't started with the insults toward Christians. She can gloss is over and conveniently forget the entire post she made that riled me, and that's fine, too. Denial seems to be all too common on this forum, especially when a negative energy descends on the group.
I have tried to get involved in other areas of this forum, besides the SMW thread, and every time I do, I regret it. I see snide remarks made about those of us who do not contribute or post in other areas of the forum, and this particular incident has only reminded as to why I generally steer clear of the so-called "heated" topics.

DF, in case you don't get it... this whole fiasco isn't about anybody being RIGHT or WRONG.. it's about having respect for another person's beliefs.
Angelina came here for no other reason than to torment people who believe in God. Kimi didn't insult her beliefs... and neither did I. But we did protest her insulting ours.
In that way... she's EXACTLY like Warrior. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she IS Warrior, simply wearing a foreign hat.
The funniest part of this whole scenario was Borg popping in after she left and saying something like, "WHAT????? The only reason you came here was to provoke the holier-than-thou's??"

I know you were talking to Angelina, but I don't think that "Only respond to posts addressed specifically to you." is one of the rules here. It's just my opinion that you're being too harsh on her. Warrior was a troll who attacked everyone she talked to. Angelina is not like that, in my opinion.
It's also my opinion that many of the things she has said were out of line, and of course if I had posted just that (therefore agreeing with you), you wouldn't be mocking me for "refereeing".

See, here you go assuming that you know my opinion again. I don't think it was right for Angelina to phrase her opinions in such an insulting way. However, I don't think she really knew until afterwards just how insulted people would be. She apologized to Kimi, and I think she meant it. You're entitled to your opinion, as am I, and I never said anything about rules. I was hoping maybe you would see that it gets a little tiresome for you to jump in and scold those of us you think need to be scolded, if you are not the one being addressed on a specific issue. I'd say that pretty much sums up who's doing the assuming here! I'm not sure what you're hoping to accomplish with this. Ang might've made a lame attempt to apologize to Kimi after she realized what a mess she made by starting this thread... but she certainly never apologized to me.
Since you seem to be speaking for her, wanna apologize to me for what she said about my God? Regardless, I won't let her hug me either, but you never know, it might make YOU feel better if we all kissed and made up, huh?

So.... Say you started a thread with the intention of casting ugly aspersions upon those who don't believe in god, calling them "haters" and implying that they'd caused murders to happen. And say those who don't believe in god protested your absurd accusations and insults. And say their protests were so overwhelming that, in order to continue believing that you were right and everyone else was wrong (because of course, that's always the case!), you tried to make the case that their response to being called "haters" only proved that they really were haters and that you were their poor, innocent victim.
Wouldn't that make you "EXACTLY like Warrior," too?

Here's what I said on that thread everyone seems to want to keep alive. And I believe it today even stronger than when I posted it. Why? She's still harping on about that? And still denying that she was acting like a crazy person in that thread?
I'm sure if you can READ, Borg, you must be aware I'm not the one who keeps bringing up that embarrassing performance by the atheists on this thread... including YOU. Angelina revived the subject in an effort to use it for ammo (it didn't work), then Frannie brought it up again for the same reason. *yawn*
And BTW, I not only proved my point (ATHEISTS SPREAD HATE), I wasn't the crazy person in that thread... it was the atheists who proved how hateful you (they) are... all I had to do was sit back and watch them gather like a herd of jackels when they smelled Christian blood being spilled.
Here's some interesting statistics (http://www.adherents.com/largecom/com_atheist.html). What an outnumbered bunch you non-believers are. Might wanna think about moving to some intelligently superior (according to Prae) country like Finland where 60% of the population are atheists. Now why am I not surprised that a country that places so much emphasis on it's citizens receiving 'instruction' also has so many people who don't believe in God? Funny, but I haven't ever heard a cry go out to Finland to help solve any complicated world problems. No, "CALL THE FINS, THEY'RE REAL SMART!" Guess they're really not quite as smart as Prae might believe, eh? At least not about anything that really matters.

Those certainly are interesting statistics, SMW. Quite telling, too. Ironically enough, it ranked the atheist nations in a frighteningly similar way to another list I saw that ranked the most educated people, by country. Hmmmmmm. Go figure.

I'm not sure I see the downside to Finns "receiving instruction."
Finnish teenagers' skills in maths, science, and reading were rated the best among the forty countries assessed in the OECD's latest PISA study of schoolchildren worldwide.
PISA, The Programme for International Student Assessment, is a three-yearly appraisal of 15 year olds in the principal industrialised countries, organised by the OECD, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Finnish 15 year olds came top this time in reading literacy, maths, and science. In problem solving the Finnish youngsters lost narrowly to South Korea. Finland's mean scores were 40 to 50 points higher than the OECD average of approximately 500 points.
Finland's success in the PISA surveys has focused widespread international attention on the country's school system, as other international assessments here have produced similar results.
In the German press, for example, almost 300 articles have been written about the Finnish school system in recent times. And thousands of teachers and other educators have come here to see it for themselves. --Finnish School System (http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=41557)
The world could do a lot worse than follow the Finns' lead in education.
Funny, but I haven't ever heard a cry go out to Finland to help solve any complicated world problems. No, "CALL THE FINS, THEY'RE REAL SMART!" Guess they're really not quite as smart as Prae might believe, eh? At least not about anything that really matters.
Actually, over the years, Finns have played major roles in negotiating several very complicated and deadly international crises. General Ensio Siilasvuo was instrumental in brokering peace between Israel and Egypt. Max Jakobson was a key player in negotiating the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Martti Ahtisaari played important roles in securing the independence of Namibia and brokering peace in Kosovo. I wouldn't classify any of this as unimportant on a global scale.
You might consider, though, how interesting it is that the very people whose dedicated efforts have actually ended violence and killing in so many places are atheists, and so very often the people starting the violence and killing are, um, not.
Make of that what you will....

Calm down, Frannie. And wipe that little spittle of foam off the corner of your mouth.
Re the subject you insist on rehashing, I only added to the opening post on the Colorado thread, I didn't delete a WORD. Your insistence that I did is rather desperate... even for you. There are enough subsequent posts containing quotes of the original post to prove you're wrong about that. I would have gone back and deleted every single post I made on that thread if I'd had the time. Not because I said anything I regretted... but because I regretted getting sucked into the discussion in the first place. And for the record, I requested that the whole thread be deleted... not just my comments. I was ashamed for the bunch of you.

I'd say that problem can affect certain lifelong academics, yes. Trust me, those people bug the shit outta me too, but the reverse of what you're proffering here is true as well. That being the case, I prefer speaking to people who are intellectually curious enough to (at least, at a very minimum) LOOK at the evidence in the first place.

Let's look at the initial post that started this thread. Angelina began the thread complaining that people were throwing insults at her. She knew why the insults were being thrown..........because she insulted all people of faith who post here by saying, "god is a jerk."
Did she try to defuse the situation? No, in fact she did just the opposite. She tried to further inflame it by posting, "Yes, god is a jerk, now c'mon!"
Angelina knew that by posting the same statement yet again she would further inflame what was already a bit of a volatile situation. She acted exactly as a troll would. She tried to stir the pot and get people upset.
Hai, can all you people who disagree with me and feel the need to throw personal insults at me do it here, so that the other thread can get back on topic and become civilized again?

Prae,
No one threatened her life. No one told her to go fuck herself. No one hoped she would swallow glass and die.
People expressed their disgust with what she said. She knew when she posted it that she would get a strong reaction. If she couldn't take it she shouldn't have started the brouhaha.
If she is so thin skinned and childish that she expects to be allowed to post nasty comments with no retort then she shouldn't let the proverbial door hit her in the ass on the way out.

Saying I don't believe God exist, is posting an opinion. Saying God is a jerk, is trying to stir up shit through trollish behavior. Repeating the statement, God is a jerk, when you know you have upset people by it previously is truely trollish behavior.

You know, I agree with you, Frogger. I definitely support Angelina's right to say whatever she wants in whatever manner she wants, but if she can't take the heat she should get the hell out of the kitchen. There's a reason that I rarely involve myself in the more heated and insult-filled arguments; I am a sensitive person, and I know I couldn't handle most of the hate spewed around here if it was directed towards me. Therefore, I keep my posts at least moderately civil, and I expect the same civility in return. :)

Oh, please, Prae...understanding for posting her opinion??? That's putting it very mildly.
Offensive as it was, Kimi - that's all it was - her opinion. Disagreement is fine, and I understand your complaint that she was looking to 'stir the pot' by stating openly that, "god's a jerk", but what I don't understand is why you'd take her comment so PERSONALLY. Your relationship with your god is your own - no one else’s, and what does it say in the bible about that? Turn the other cheek, or something to that effect? The thread that started THIS thread was all about her fomenting an argument that had NOTHING to do "hating" god OR Christianity; it was about her logically disproving SMW's claim that the bible was "proof" of god's existence. That's it.

Prae,
Jesus would have turned the other cheek, but then, Jesus is perfect.
I am not perfect. I am fallable flesh with all the shortcomings of fallable flesh.
Jesus would turn the other cheek but if you insult my God I will, instead, beat the living shit out of you.
See, I'm just not perfect like Jesus is.

Being someone who never really shys away from a debate(fight) on here i have read this whole thread and personally i think the angelica poster gave alot of shit but took alot of shit too. It had to be clear to her getting into this exchange she was going to have the less popular opinion of the two and she would be handling replies in her own defense from multiple people. She still went through and posted her opinion.
Sure at times she might of pushed the envelope and tippy toes on the line, but I dint think she crossed it. Upon reading this thread she even mentions some of the people went back and edited their past post to prevent her from making points. Those accusations where never answered,so who knows what really happened..
I think the fact of her breaking from the original thread and making this one was a classic message board trick, and those who were opposing her opinion got even more pissed off at the tactic. I personally applauded at the little trick. It is clear this women has been in this situation before.
No one here was really insulted. This wasn't like the fights that tend to go on in the political section. Looking back this was the most friendliest pissing contest i even seen. The angelica poster bit off a huge chunk and if she did infact leave over it,then that chunk was more than she could possibly chew. I dont think she was bullied or pushed out that door.
