These were Iranian speedboats buzzing around US ships -

Actually they were Iranian speedboats that started to approach the American warships but ended up turning away.

Seems that it was indeed fabricated by someone calling themselves 'Filipino Monkey', What an abyssmally stupid thing to do.

What a load of tripe. Yet another Radical....
Any single tid-bit of news you trolled from the web that supports your crazy world view - however obscure - you will hold it high & then anything else - well thats all propganda. These were Iranian speedboats buzzing around US ships............yet when it comes to Radicals - there always has to be more...a secret plot....a cunning subterfuge, get a life.

Get a brain.

You're doing exactly what you accuse me of doing; dismissing something because you prefer the other scenario.

The difference is that I am simply saying it is possible that the thing with the "Phillipino monkey" is the explanation, while you are dismissing out of hand any and all reports that do not support the version of events that you prefer.

Frankly, I had thought you were a bit brighter than that.

Sure, it's possible. It's also possible the Algerians could've been involved. That said, given the video, it doesn't seem likely to me unless the Iranian Government planned on executing that hoax with the "Phillipino monkey" beforehand. It's entirely too coordinated for what happened to be a coincidence. Again, 2 and 2 isn't making 4 here. Nothing about the point I'm making is partisan.

It wasn't a total-loss. At least the Bush/Limbaugh lemmings got their adrenaline-"kick".

Since the U.S. Navy did not --as they did with the Phillipino Monkey possibility-- hold a press conference stating that the Algerians may have been the ones sending the transmission, I think it is valid to say that it was unlikely the Algerians did it.

Given what the military people who were there have now told us, it is beyond stupid to keep clinging to the nation that it was not possible for another party, a third party --someone on the shore, another ship passing by, some local heckler--- to have been the originator of the transmission.

Uhh, no shit. Like, try, right before we opened fire on them.

Oh, and it wasn't "suspected" to have been the Philipino Monkey who made those threats.... According to your own link , it's only been suggested as a possibility....

Why am I not surprised you worded it that way...

This filipino monkey needs his ass kicked-who knows what the implications could have been had one the USN opened fire.

No doubt a visit to Cuba is on the cards for him.

My argument isn't over it being a "possibility" - I fully understand that it's possible, however given what transpired, I'd say reaching that conclusion is preposterous. If an Iranian patrol boat hadn't charged our fleet, ignored their radio, dropped shit in the waterway, and ignored our warnings, then sure, I'd buy the heckler story. That said, I think it's bone-headed IN THE EXTREME to proffer this "Phillipino monkey" bullshit as a plausible explanation for what happened. It's counterintuitive, illogical, and flat-out unlikely. I mean, it's not like the Iranian "navy" has ever been aggressive with westerners before, right? Oh, wait - there are a few Brits who were taken HOSTAGE (as of a year ago) that may disagree.

There's a less than slim chance the Phillipino monkey was involved at all.

On that note, when was the last time an Iranian patrol boat pulled that kinda shit with our Navy? The short answer is NEVER, or it would've been reported before. This point is key to the logic I'm using. Now, having said that, is it really anyone's logical contention that the ONE time these yahoos decide to mess with us coincides with the ONE time this (apparently ubiquitous) "Phillipino monkey" (who "heckles" people ALL OVER THE PERSIAN GULF) happens to turn up (at that EXACT location and time) and THREATEN US?!?! Oh, the irony...... One might even call it unbelievable.

Alarm bells are ringing, fellas. This makes no fucking sense, whatsoever.

I think the commander of the US ship involved should be commended for showing patience and resolve, he could as easily sent these small boats
to Allah if he chose.

Like I said earlier, when the same sort of thing happened with British Patrol boats-they simply gave up.

I suppose, but I would've smoked 'em after the first warning. IMO, if you're approaching me quickly (and you're not waving a white flag), then you're engaging me in battle. I don't want a repeat of the USS Cole incident, where, needless to say, a small boat ended the lives of 17 US soldiers because it's long been our policy to shoot only after we've been shot at. Our fucking government apparently values the lives of two threatening sand monkeys more than it does 17 of it's own servicemen. If I ran things, that wouldn't be the case.

Well if-as may have happened centuries ago, and I had the misfortune to have found myself press ganged into the Royal Navy, sitting on a boat in the Hormuz Straits with a boat full of Iranians telling me to surrender,

I would have pebbledashed em-simple.

Exactly!

But have to remember some people just simply want the US to be wrong in everything & rather than exhibiting common sense they will jump on anything that fits their jaded viewpoint. Shaman and his son Freethinker fit this kind of illness all the way.

Well then by all goddamned means, Einstein, please rush to your fucking telephone right away and get the United States Navy (IOW, the people who stated that there was another possible source of the radio communication) on the line and offer them your invaluable expertise in assessing exactly who was responsible.

I'm sure they're breathless with anticipation to hear from someone stateside who knows for certain that it was not who the Navy said it might have been.

Maybe there are some people like that. I don't know.

As for me, I'd just like to see them --the people in the White House-- be truthful in what they tell the American Public when it comes to serious matters like the start of yet another war.

Agreed, that prankster is known for saying stupid things, but not as stupid as William "the bloody" Krystol, trying to claim this incident is a good enough excuse to invade Iran and make a complete and utter mess of the middle east.

Seriously can you point to one topic in which you've not blamed the US for something?

Oh, so now the fact that our servicemen were actually "there" counts for something, eh? Jesus, you're inconsistent, FT. I thought all we did was imprison and/or kill crimeless "victims". Your "700,000 dead innocent people" figure (as wild as it is) serves as proof.

That aside, there's a perfectly logical explanation for the "report" they issued. The Navy PR machine, in light of the constant flak our military takes, wanted to sound irrefutably diplomatic (if only for a moment). Due to the simple fact that no one was killed or injured, they probably wanted accolades for not using force. IOW, it made them look good in the public's eye, here AND abroad - or is this point lost on you when people such as yourself are on a mission to indict our boys of recklessly and injudiciously using force to deal with people? I mean, seriously - how many times have you shown us the figures before? Yeah...that's what I thought.

The report itself was nothing more than a PR move, FT (i.e. a strategic play). It's doesn't change the fact that we were seconds away from FIRING ON THE IRANIAN PATROL BOAT FOR IGNORING OUR REPEATED WARNINGS. A point that, single handedly, doesn't bode well with your "Phillipino Monkey" distraction/unbelievably ridiculous coincidence. I mean, it amounts to nothing more than a logical fallacy, but please, whatever you do.......don't let that get in the way of your predisposed notions.
