I'm 39yrs old and I love music.

As a child however my musical choices were limited, very limited. I grew up in north central WV in the 70's not exactly a musical paradise at the time. I listened to whatever the adults listened to. 50's, 60's, Disco ( ), soft rock, country whatever was played I just went along. Kind of musical sponge, but I had no identity. Socially I was shy nearly backward, the other kids all seemed to have favorite bands and songs, I didn't identify with any of it though.

Then the 80's came and cable changed everything. For the young-uns out there in the early days of MTV they actually played music videos. There weren't that many in the early days so they played a lot of old concert footage or tv footage over the years, until enough videos could be made to fill in. Still there was no Real World or whatever the hell they put on now, just music. IT WAS AWESOME!

JUDAS PRIEST: Breaking the Law!!!! Holy horse shit! What the hell was that it was fantastic!

That weekend I did some extra chores and begged my dad if I could go buy the album. Again for the kiddies, once long ago there were no MP3's or even CD's. This was just barely past the age of 8-tracks, this was the golden age of cassette tapes.

Anyway the local music store didn't have that one, the only Judas Priest they had was the new album, Screaming for Vengence, works for me. I was in heaven, I finally found the music that spoke to me, that shook my soul, that punched me in the nuts and said "Wake up and start living!!!!"

Funny I had always felt an outcast because I didn't connect with any of the music that was popular, when I finally did connect with a music style it was the most unpopular one around, no one else seemed to like it. The thing was I no longer cared, I struggled for so long to fit in, now I didn't. I was me and to qote KISS, I liked it loud.

Now then as I said I'm 39 staring 40 in the face, I like it all. Everyone says that but I fucking mean it. My music collection ranges from Beethoven, to Barry Manilow (yeah I admit it), to Judas Priest, to Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks. The only musical style I can honestly say I don't like is blue grass. Otherwise you name the genre, I can probably find somehting I like. With all that said I remain true to my first musical love. Sure I'm overwieght, bald, and swinging my head up and down hurts like hell but I still love the music. Whether it's Black Sabbath: with War Pigs or Pantera: with Cowboys from Hell or Godsmack: with I Stand Alone.

Probably out there somewhere is some new band that will make me smile and bang my head a bit. In the end Metal is the music of my soul.

Just wanted to share. Your turn.
