The 3rd movie of the resident evil series is filled with realistic, futuristic drama. Mila Jovavich is one of the few remaining humans not infected with the T-virus, which turns humans into walking zombies.
We find out early that Jovavich's character is actually a government experiment, and that she is being cloned over and over to see how she reacts to different happenings. All of this is happening underground in an "umbrella corporation" secret lab.
The REAL Jovavich, the original, shows signs of genetic mutation and has somewhat "superhuman" powers. She meets up with a convoy of other humans who are heading to alaska where the T-virus is said to not have spread. The problem is gasoline and supplies. They stop at Las Vegas, as all other gas stations are empty. There they are initially drawn into an empty city, but soon are bombarded by zombies. Most of the convoy dies.
Jovavich then follows a helicopter which is tracking her from the underground lab to the lab's location. The few remaining humans not infected steal the chopper and head to alaska, while Jovavich goes down to the underground lab. There she finds the results of a scientist, mad with power, who has mutated himself into a supreme, unstoppable being. The scientist has killed all other authorities and umbrella higher-ups. Jovavich fights this mutated beast in a security hallway from the first Resident Evil, which has a laser defense mechanism. The monster is shredded to pieces by the laser grid, while the agile Jovavich sneaks through a grate above. She then gets in contact with other underground umbrella labs and says she is coming to get them, but with company, as the camera pans out to 100's of Jovavich clones still not yet used.
I liked the movie because It kept the dynamic of the first and second movie in. This movie started almost exactly as the first did, and there were similar and familiar locations and camera shots that made it mesh nicely. Jovavich as an actor isn't really used for her acting in this role, but more for eye candy and her athletic ability.
I recommend seeing this movie if you have seen the other two.. if you have not seen the other two, you will still enjoy it, but will not pick up the hints from the old movies.
