View Full Version : 2012: End of the World?

We all know the Mayan Calender ends at 2012... and you can find it in those "bible codes", which aren't very reliable... but with all that being said - Do you think there is enough evidence around you resembling the "end times" that the book or revelation described? In some instances I would say absolutely, in others I'm not so sure.

I wonder how many times a person said the end of the world is coming on a specific date and people actually bought it and then found out they had been taken?

Call me dumb but I didn't know that.

The only reliable part is the part where I reliably will not be checking the reliability of "bible codes"
but with all that being said - Do you think there is enough evidence around you resembling the "end times" that the book or revelation described? In some instances I would say absolutely, in others I'm not so sure.
No, I see no evidence of that, but there is a lot of evidence that suggests people have been anticipating the "end times" for a long time.
The "end times" is a crock of shite no less, right up there with the "rapture" and so forth. I can never understand people's facination with the end of the world - all one can summize is their life sucks.

Drew, I think the end of the world is fascinating.. and my life doesn't "suck"... So I guess I either disspell your theory or am just the exception.

Words of wisdom right there.
But seriously. The world was supposed end 1000 times over already. Were all still here. Dec 21, 2012 will pass without a hitch, I already put my money up on it in Vegas.

The only thing "mysterious" with december 21st 2012 is that the our solar system passes the galactic equator as it has done a few thousand times already since our sun ignited 4.5 billion years ago.

how many times has it done it since the dawn of man? we only occupy a sort span of earth's history. it would only take a fraction of volcanoes erupting at once to make earth uninhabitable for us :(
still, the Mayan calendar doesn't really "end", it predicts a major change. the "bible code" predicts a comet strike in 2012, if the major quake in southern CA happens in 2010, getting things off your "to do" list might seem more urgent.
(i don't really look into this sort of thing, it's just been on the history channel a lot lately)

I think it happens every 5000 or so years and the Mayans put the creation of the world at the beginning of this cycle, and I guess that is why they think it will en in 2012. I remember seeing some program on discovery/NGC a while back about mayan astronomy.

Although I'd like a few more years to enjoy my life (it's improved dramatically the last few years and looks damned good for the future), I can honestly say it wouldn't bother me in the least to be vaporized (or whatever) along with the rest of humanity, should that come to pass.
I have absolutely NO regrets.
Plus, I think the earth could use a break from us crawling all over its skin and messing it up... :)

I don't want to die in 2012! If it has to happen, I wish I could know for sure in advance... So instead of cleaning my life up and going down the responsible grown up path I could just spend the next 5 years partying.

If you think "hell" is "AC/DC" concerts... wow....
As for Paul's asking of what I would do... I wouldn't "party it up".. that life really has nothing to offer. I would go off on my own and try to find peace with myself and the world. I would try to release any hatred or social habits I had, and try to follow God to the best of my ability.
Funny that I'm talking on what I "would" do, because I am actually DOING this, and have been for the past few months.

If you're talking strictly from the bible, Jesus says, he will come like a thief in the night. He also says, no one will know when but God.
Me personally, as a Christian I think Jesus will return soon, I just couldnt give you a date. So, 2012 is as good a date as any.
I suggest we chang Prince's "party like its 1999" to Party like its 2011.

The person known as "Jesus" is claimed to have said a lot of things..........many of which he later contradicted by saying something the virtual opposite.
It seems to me that any supposed "son of the creator of the universe" would possess the strength of intellect to not go around continually contradicting what he'd said previously.
The writers who concocted the "son of god" myth needed to have gotten their stories a little straighter between themselves before they began spinning the tale.

Not to mention translating the prophecies the stories was supposed to fulfill correctly, they failed there too...

There are so many failed prophecies in the Bible it boggles the mind how any human being could put any real credence in what it says.

All right Decka is asking if you can see some evidence when the world is about to end; and he says he surely did see some. But Inviolable says that according to god this will happen "like a thief at night", implying that you can't really predict it based on some observation.

There is about the same amount of empirical and tangible evidence that the *world is about to end* as there is for the existence of some invisible, omnipotent supernatural deity.
IOW..........zero.

Well, according to the interpretation (one of several equally founded on the bible) that those "Left Behind" series lunatics subscribe to, there are a few signs who will lead up to the seven year period who ends in armageddon. But it is clearly stated no one will know the exact time. Brilliant control tactic to keep religious people on their toes...

Well, the end is described, in that respect there is evidence.
Jesus also said his followers would recognize what he was talking about.
I've seen some things myself that put me on the same list as Decka.
I guess the point is, we can know when "soon" is near but not when "exactly" is going to be.
What did I just say?
There are more Christians saying, we are near, now. Then any other time I personally can remember.
"This is what it means, to come like a thief in the night."

Yeah as I said before: It is amazing what the human mind can convince itself of anything. The bible has been proven to be a myth, but these guys just keep believing and not even looking at ANY other ideas of how the bible could have come about, etc. It is a useless topic. They can believe it as long as they don't try to fucking "spread the word" to me or innocent children - especially college kids (yes college kids are vulnerable). That's what they do, they go out and target mostly college kids. I guess they are now going after the high school kids too. That, by the way, was also a very clever tactic - "spreading the word". what a joke!

not waiting, just ready. the end of my "world" could come at any minute, or when i'm 80.
