I RECENTLY PURCHASED WINDOWS XP AND A NEW HARD DRIVE. I WANT TO INSTALL MY NEW HARD DRIVE AND PARTITION IT BUT DON'T KNOW HOW. I HAVEN'T INSTALLED XP YET, MY GOAL IS TO INSTALL XP ON THE NEW DRIVE AND I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SOME HELP. I DO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL THE HARD DRIVE, JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO PARTITION IT.

I CURRENTLY HAVE WINDOWS ME

I'M NEW TO THIS, SO PLEASE EXCUSE ME IF I DO SOMETHING WRONG.

THANX FOR ANY HELP THAT YOU MAY PROVIDE

You mean you want to split the new hard drive into two, so you'd have a total of three drives? You'd need a program like PartitionMagic for that.

If you just want to put the new drive in and have a total of two hard drives, just put it in your computer and everything, then get to work installing XP, and install it to the new drive. It should be able to format the new drive properly by itself.

I you want to install the new drive and have windows xp on that by itself is pretty easy. Extra easy if you have partition magic. But if you dont you can use fdisk. Its easier than you think. Just make sure you make both partitions active. Then you will get a boot selector screen when you start up. If you need help with this feel free to pm me.

thank you for responding, i still haven't put it in yet, although i did get a copy of partition magic.i don't have a lot of free time, but have been trying to read up on it.i was under the impression that fdisk was microsofts way of doing it, although it might be a little more complicated. what i've been doing is gathering all the other programs i want to install. i have a small network at home and i will need to get info on how to save the settings on this hard drive so i can easily install them on the new drive. ( i want to erase and repartition my current drive). if you have any suggestions or tips i would greartly appreciate them, also - pardon my ignorance, but i don't know what "pm" you means
thanx
