Pains in chest – also hips and back

I am a woman aged 59.
My trouble started with a central chest pain in April 2003 on a Saturday.By Tuesday the pain had spread to my left shoulder with stabbing pains. My chest felt constricted and 5 or six times a day I sweated profusely. I was admitted to Hospital on the Tuesday with a suspected heart attack however, test showed nothing more than a heart murmur and I was discharged that day. The pains gradually worsened and the first week in May I was re-admitted to Hospital, where it was thought to be clots of blood in the lungs. A week later I was discharged, after test showed nothing. A Nuclear bone scan did show a `hot spot` exactly where the pain is in my chest. A consequent M.R.I. scan showed nothing. The pain has always been strong and constrictive in my chest, but a secondary pain travels throughout my body, mainly hips, ribs and back. I am constantly tired, but this is perhaps because of the tablets I am on.(pain killers and anti-depressants)
A heart Surgeon suggested Fibromyalgia and referred me to a pain Clinic where another Doctor said it was not Fibromyalgia but was degeneration of the chest bone.
I have had lots of test but I don`t seem to be getting anywhere! I wonder if anyone out there has experienced anything like my symptoms or knows of anyone who could help me.

Wow i am really sorry, the best advice i can give (since i know nothing) Is stay on their ass until whatever is wrong is found out. Don't settle for a half ass answer make sure you get another opinion if they claim to know what it is.

Paging Doctor Willow............... Oh crap that's right you guys shot our only doc, nice job guys. Now she'll just have to settle for Mopo

Anne My advice to you is go to a doc, not the internet, if that doc can't help, find one that can.

I've had the very symptoms you complained about, Anne! I recieved frightening diagnoses and suggested treatments from two different doctors, both of whom called the other's into serious question. (You might say each thought the other was incompetent.)

Each pushed needles, pills and whatnot at me, and each did little to nothing to relieve my ailments... Both gave me medicinal concoctions which were later banned by the U.S. government...

I mostly stay away from both of them now, and while my energy is still very low, my various pains have largely disappeared after I realized a possible cause was ergonomic problems caused by sitting at a computer for hours on end...

It could well be that BOTH of my doctors are indeed quacks, so everything should be just ducky...

I'd recommend you get more than one medical opinion and research the info you recieve very carefully by comparing it to what you find on internet web sites. (The web is no worse a source of information that any other. Go to several sources and use your own judgement about what is useful and what is not.)

Best Wishes to you, Anne!

One other symptom I sometimes have from time to time is misspelling the word "receive." Sorry if that gave you an eye sore...
