Well, I wouldn't say nothing Einstein did mattered after he died. Making a difference in the world is much more of a purpose in life than sitting around waitig to die so you can go to a better place that you don't even know for certain exist. That's just my opinion...
There are many religious people who gave their life to their religion and have made an impression on the world similar, or even more than, Einstein. I always like to use Martin Luther as an example, he pretty much risked it all to make changes to the catholic church.
Oh, the difference is obvious. As for the absolute I'm referring to both your comments that the bible is true. That is an unfounded absolute.
I know SMW has been saying the Bible is "proof" that God exists... I have never said that. I believe in the messages, and I consider the book to be divinely inspired.... but I don't expect a non-believer to take it the same way, unless they are looking through a different perspective.
I disagree that your actions in life become irrelevant, we may no longer exist after we're dead, but we do leave something behind.
I was talking about personally... we always leave things behind, but YOU as an individual become nothing, if there is no afterlife. That is why humility and giving are so important, because it's what you give that stays after you leave, and the example you set, how you lived your life, and your values that stick around. Some people take those on.
Again I must point out I'm agnostic to the existance of a god, I have however no belief whatsoever in the divinity of the bible.
That's fine, the bible is pretty much just Jewish and Christian heritage... and they can't even agree. I've tossed around the idea of 1 God that everyone prays to and writes about, and the different religions are because they were all found on opposite sides of the world in different cultures...
How can it be incorrect when you just stated it was open for interpretation? In any case you should know what the final commandments of Jesus. Mark 16 and Acts 2 if my memory serves me right...
Mark 16 is right before Jesus ascends into heaven after coming back from the dead. He instructs his disciples to spread his teachings to all nations.. but does that mean that is the one defining principle of christianity? certainly not, read the parables that Jesus spoke of.. THOSE are the fruits of christianity. Of course the spread of christianity is part of the religion, but you made it seem as if it's the main message.
I just see you get overly defensive and I think its a bit of an overreaction. Fortunately it doesn't turn you into a dribbling moron like Frogger...
I'll do my best to avoid offending you, but it is well known in such debates that an anti-religious opinion will always be offensive to most religious people regardless of how you express it.
Again, the initial thing that sparked this whole "offending" thing was my post on how SOME PEOPLE MIGHT get offended. I said multiple times I wasn't, but I just warned you Angelina. Everyone has touchy subjects. If I were to say some person you know but don't care much for is a whore, you probably wouldn't care. But If i said your mother was a whore, that's different. Why? Because your mother is close to you. Same with religion, to many people religion is close to them, and emotions can get the better of them. When someone denounces something that they hold so closely, like you (even though you have every right to).. you might get some emotional responses. That's why I warned to use appropriate language and respect on the subject. If not, then you are just looking for confrontation.
The only way you will offend me Angelina is if you go out of your way to smear religion. Everyone can have their own beliefs, and if we are going to talk and debate religion and the existence of God, it is our responsibility to respect the other's stance, convey what we believe, and even if you question what the other believes, try to still state it as a possibility or theory, not an "accusation"... I could be guilty of it, In my opinion, you came across a bit strong Angelina. But again, just because I thought you came on strong doesn't mean you offended me.
