The United States made a dramatic reversal Saturday, first rejecting then accepting a compromise to set the stage for intense negotiations in the next two years aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions worldwide.
The UN climate change conference in Bali was filled with emotion and cliff hanging anticipation on Saturday,an extra day added because of a failure
to reach agreement during the scheduled sessions
The final result was a global warming pact that provides for negotiating rounds to conclude in 2009.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon called the pact ''a good beginning''.
Paula Dobriansky-head of the US delegation said ''developing countries need to accept more of the responsibility''.
No doubt as the United States has signed up [in principle] to agreement,
it should become very near the top of 08 elections,as the next President
will carry the can on any difficult decisions Americans need to make.
To me this is good news-as the world leader-nothing can be changed without the full backing of the United States on this issue.

yeah, but the keyword is "negotiations". it's just a bunch of talk and no real action. the best thing to do is for individuals to take matters into their own hands.
i saw soemthing where they were talking about how you can help buy just turning off lights that are not needed, car pooling, getting a better gas mileage car, change filters regularly, etc.,etc.. guess what? in the 1970's it was called saving money.
keep in mind, it is cheaper to be cleaner. less mess to pay to clean up later.

i saved $500 by not replacing the catalytic converter on my pickup when i had the exhaust fixed, and picked up 2 mpg
funny thing is the old emission tester in the back of the shop said it was cleaner after than before:confused:

Its fine and admirable for individuals to do they're bit, but I dont really think it contributes that much-in general.
Big business is the real culprit-so if and when they are set emission targets,
its their customers who will have to pay up, not them.
PS: if you take a CAT off your exhaust here, you can have your car impounded.
Its an expensive item-get a secondhand one at the breakers yard.

I believe you may have saved money removing the Catalytic converter , but I don't believe your truck poduced less toxicity of emissions
