Its the divorce from hell. With no pre-nuptial agreement in place, exactly how
would Scotland withdraw from the UK.

With the Scottish Nationalist Party now in power in Edinburgh, talk of Independance is back on the agenda. Some remain sceptial that Scottish voters would back such a plan, but the SNP believes it will happen within a decade.

From carving up the family property to whose head appears on Scottish stamps, how might it work?

Why would family property be divided up, Paul?

i do like the idea of Scottish independence. Those Scots are independent cusses anyhoo and have never really liked being part of Great Britian. And Wallace on a stamp isn't a bad idea--either him of Sir Alexander Fleming, or any other dozen or so great great men of science they've produced over the years.

The Scots are smart.

Funny you should bring this up--just a few hours ago I read this in an 1895 newspaper.

Powers of the Queen

It is generally believed in this country (America) that the sovereign is entirely without power. An English authority says...they can still do some astonishing things.....The Queen could dismiss anyone she chose from the Army, from the Commander in Chief to the lowliest drummer boy.....she could disband the Navy the same way., and sell all the English ships, stores and arsenals to the first customer that came along. Acting entirely on her own responsibility, she could declare war against any foreign country, or make a present to any foreign power any part of the Empire. She could make every man, woman and child a Peer of the Realm, with the right to be seated in the House of Lords. With a single word she could dismiss any government that happened to be in power, and could liberate every criminal in the jails....

If that's true, then maybe Elizabeth II could make a present of Scotland--to Scotland. And do the same with Ireland while she's at it.

Will never happen--or could it????

ha--I'll put our weather up against yours any old day.

It's not everywhere where you can have a blizzard, a few days of 80 plus temps, and then a tornado--all in one week.

PS. You think the worst weather is in Minnesota or South Dakota, I'll be bound.
the winters THERE are summer's days in Gary.

I was under the impression that Monarchy and Parliment were kept seperate in England-since the civil war.

The House of Commons representing the people.
The House of Lords representing all the other scum.

See what I can dig up. :)

Yep, beautiful , scenic Gary, Indiana---home of gracious living.
We're so nice they wrote a song about us:

Gary Indiana Gary Indiana Gary Indiana
Let me say it once again.....

Believe it or not, I can remember when Gary used to be nice--that is, you could shop in the nice big downtown, go to the nice parks, and beautiful Marquette Park on the shores of the lake was and still is the most beautiful place I've ever been to.

Ah well, long ago. Recently they've been trying to fix it up but could be a lost cause. A LOT of crime and unemployment, abandoned steel mills....it's sad.

I had the pleasure of living and working in Scotland for 6 months when I was a lot younger. The Scots are some the most decent people on the planet, and the country is beautiful. They are not big fans of the English. Although I doubt that, given a referendum, the majority of Scots would vote to leave the UK. I think they would settle for greater autonomy.

paulc
12-07-2007, 03:18 PM
I think at present they have as much autonomy as they can achieve.

This SNP have overlooked the fact that Scottish Loyalist could infact start a
military campaign-similar to what was seen in N.Ireland,as Scottish Loyalists
armed and financed their Irish counter parts to a degree.
