View Full Version : KARMA-Time, For Republicans!!!
Mr. Shaman

"Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott's resignation announcement on Monday was the latest in a wave of retirements to hit congressional Republicans, making an already difficult 2008 electoral landscape even more complicated for the minority party.
Party officials insist that the retirements -- 17 members of the House and six senators -- are simply the result of individual decisions and not indicative of a broader negative sentiment within the party.
But with so many lawmakers -- including a large number from competitive states and districts -- heading for the exits, it's hard not to point to the GOP's newfound minority status in Washington, the turnover in party leadership and the perilous political environment heading into 2008 to explain the exodus.
Regardless of the reasons for the retirements, Republicans find themselves in serious danger of falling deeper into the minority in [B]both the House and Senate in 2008 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/26/AR2007112602235.html?hpid=topnews)."

They advertise for MORE Oligarchs (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/26/us/politics/26recruit.html?ex=1353733200&en=65b1fef8e190bd1f&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Confronting an enormous fund-raising gap with Democrats, Republican Party officials are aggressively recruiting wealthy candidates who can spend large sums of their own money to finance their Congressional races, party officials say."

Good post Shaman.
Too bad the reich-wingers who dominate this board got their way and have managed to stifle actual discussion of real issues.
The board demanded more personal attacks and less discussion of the issues and the moderators (who claim they don't police behavior when it is a reich winger behaving badly) have decided to cave in to their demands.

Dharma and Freethinker, you know that I "think" like you guys on many issues. However, Shaman was not "debating" anything. He would just posts loads and loads of info (and that is ok), HOWEVER whenever someone even tried to discuss his points he would just come back with name calling and stereo-typing. Even if someone made a non-biased comment, he was ready to "attack" - not debate. (even to people like me who are on "his" side - whatever that meant).

This is actually an interesting topic (even more-so without the annoying visual embellishments). Apparently, there's a bit more to to these departures from Congress than they're letting on...
Lott to quit Senate only one year into new term (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/politics/la-na-lott27nov27,1,2632124.story?coll=la-news-politics-national&track=crosspromo)
The 35-year veteran's decision to leave by year's end will let him avoid a two-year wait if he wants a lobbying job.
Los Angeles Times: November 27, 2007
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Trent Lott, a 35-year Capitol Hill veteran who staged a political comeback after losing his Senate leadership post because of racially insensitive remarks, plans to resign from office before the year is out.
With his decision, the Senate's No. 2 Republican will avoid a new ethics rule that takes effect by the end of the year, allowing him to pursue a lucrative lobbying job after a year's wait rather than after two years.
"One of the things that troubles me now is the great difficulty in passing needed legislation," Lott said Monday in Pascagoula, Miss. The 66-year-old, who only last year won reelection, said he had made no decision on his post-congressional career. "I don't know what the future holds for us," he said. "A lot of options, hopefully, will be available."
But the timing of his departure fueled speculation that Lott was leaving to join the parade of former lawmakers who turn to lobbying to cash in on their experience and connections.
An ethics bill passed by Congress and signed by President Bush this year doubles, to two years, the "cooling off" period that senators must wait after leaving Capitol Hill before they can lobby their former colleagues. House members balked at lengthening their turnaround time, leaving their waiting period at one year.
It's happening in both parties, of course, but the Republican party will suffer the most for it, because they will have to defend 23 seats in next year's Congressional elections and the Democrats will only have to defend 12. The current, very slim Democratic majority in each house will surely increase.
Maybe then we can get the hell out of Iraq!

We both know exactly why.
Because whenever a thread is started that expresses the slightest bit of criticism (or, I should say, when a thread WAS started, as that sort of thing has apparently been outlawed in order to placate the crybabies hereabouts) for a saintly Conservative politician (as Shaman's threads often did) the whining rightwing faction here will forever --instead of discussing the issue like an adult might, or trying to form a coherant counterpoint to the information that was posted-- begin to moan and bitch about the topic even being even raised.
They simply cannot bear the slightest criticism of ANY sort and they WILL not hear anything spoken of that confronts or questions their worldview or the agenda of the ruling RightWing.
They are like spoiled little rich kids, accustomed to having their way 100% of the time. Pure and simple.

IMO, Shaman became quite (understanably) defensive after a while of having the reich-wing crybabies on here constantly going straight to personal attacks or changing the subject. When anyone complained to the mods about their behavior we are told they "don't police behavior".
But then what do the mods turn around and do when the reich-wingers whine and cry?

Absolutely NOT. I do not approve of Shaman being banned. I have said over and over that I really see NO PROBLEM with anything Shaman has done or said. I have contributed ideas for solutions that allow Shaman to continue posting but reduce other posters' irritation at him. If I were Shaman, I would have started combining my threads so as not to start so many of them. It's about having respect for the rest of the community. However, he didn't break any forum rules as far as I know. We don't even have the rules posted. Therefore, I don't think he should have been banned.

I agree. I don't think the mods should have to be the forum police, picking up any little infraction, but I also don't think that we should be so liberal (no political meaning attached here) with the personal attacks. Dharma, you are just as guilty as anyone else you have pointed out. There seems to be a small "inner circle" of posters who can say whatever the hell they want with no repercussions. Those few posters are the source of 90% of the personal attacks and escalating tensions on the board but since they seem to enjoy a "protected" status from the mods, nothing ever changes.

I have beat my head against that particular brick wall already.
I was pointedly told that the mods "don't police behavior", but that apparently only applies to certain protected posters who just happen to be the worst offenders.

BTW, if you don't like whining and personal attacks, maybe you shouldn't engage in that kind of behavior quite so often.
When in Rome...
I gave up trying to change anything here a while ago. The mods aren't interested in improving debate, only in keeping a small inner circle of posters happy. Now I just give as good as I get.
I am just telling it like it is. You don't like the way it is here, go talk to the mods.
I didn't make the board this way, I just do as the Romans do.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.
But apparently speaking that truth on here is cause for banning by childish moderators.
I have to disagree there, dharma.
Vile is, and has always been, extremely fair and even handed, (and Drew too) but he was put in a bad position. The people doing all the moaning and complaining about threads (by truthout and Shaman) being started were the real source of the childishness, not the mods.
Napster --whose postings I usually like and whose outlook on life is about as cynical as mine at times-- in particular acted like a petulant seven year old. Albeit a seven year who imagines himself to be the internet equivalent of the Incredible Hulk when it comes to "settling" (as he pictures himself as doing ...) disputes on bulletin boards.
I am still astounded at the way that some of the adults here threw a temper tantrum over something that was causing them little to no inconvenience, had they simply visited the threads they liked and not visited the ones that hurt their feelings because the actions of certain politicians were being questioned/criticised.

One day, I'll drive out to Mississippi and explain it all to you in person, FT. Then we can pour perfectly good bottles of Jim Beam Black down our throats and lament about the piss poor state the ultra-conservatives putting our country in. But for right now, I've got to keep this little forum together. They might be ultra right-wing conspirators dedicated to keeping the B*shies in office, but I still like to call them friends.

No, she, with all of 140 posts here, decided to question the efficacy our mods, you presumptuous dick. I didn't necessarily agree with Borg's decision to ban her, but none of the "conserva-zombies" you were so ready to indict did anything to prompt it.

Since the people wanting these *obnoxious and spamming posters* to be banned only want those who make posts critical of the Rightwing to be kicked off.
When other posters do far more spamming than the two that you're referring to-- but posts that are not critical of the Right-- nothing is said.

I simply said that **I usually like his posts**.
Stop saying this is political, jackass.
I think it is completely political, or else the whiners would have bitched about the other spammers who ---when they began MORE threads in one day than Shaman/truthout did--- made numerous posts that were not critical of the Right, there was not a single word of complaint.

Okay, then you tell me, Pal - what was his motivation? As far as I know, he certainly doesn't curry favor with the right-wingers here, so outside of the obvious, the golden question still remains: why would he do it in the first place????
Or is this simply another one of those "what happened to building 7" on 9/11 queries?

Are you talking about the person or people who did so in RETALIATION!?! I think at that point in time we were ALL fed up with Shaman's incredible bullshit here (which he'd been warned about OVER A YEAR AGO, mind you), and although many of us probably shrugged Napster's retaliatory move off as childish, we UNDERSTOOD why he did it, because UNLIKE Shaman, it's not something he normally does on Allforums.
Are you really that fuckin' surprised!?

FT seems to think I'm a lot more political than I actually am. It matters not to me whether they were Bush-bashers, or Bush-lovers, on either side, but when something starts happening and people start to hate posting here, I'm gonna do something about it.
I personally hate politics. I don't give a monkey's fuck who is in office. Because all those pantywaists are exactly the same. I find it amusing how FT draws the line here.

As long as it doesn't involve thread-jacking or another form of obnoxious posting, fine. Your best course of action would be to talk to a mod about it. :)
