As a 'Skin fan, this was big news to me. However, considering the lifestyle he has led, its hardly suprising that this happened.

I hope he has a full recovery, but initial reports are not good at all. If he ever regains consciousness, the medical experts are saying there may be brain damage suffered due to loss of blood. :(

Stating fact isnt slamming in my opinion. He's been in trouble with the law quite a few times, even brandishing a firearm. He should have spent time in jail just on that offense alone. I can like someone without idolizing them.

this is sad. I hope he gets well soon. I suspect we will never see him on the field again though.

Admittedly, i've never had good timing with expressing my opinions. :(I have been told that, at times, I was kind, but had no grace. Maybe the same is true for you, at times. No harm, no foul.

Hope he recovers. Bullshit crime/violence is terrible in any case.

What a year for football. The Broncos lose Darrent Williams to a gunshot wound at the end of last season, Kevin Everett of the Bills has a near-death experience on the field, Trent Green suffers (yet another) concussion in a game, and now Sean Taylor is in critical condition after being shot. What the hell is going on around here?!

And that Aubern DB got bitten by a K-9 on the damn field!

My apologies for my grievous error. I hope I have not caused any hardship to the families and friends of this establishment. :)

Corrections for piddly shit suck, I know. I, for one, am a terrible speller, and hate it when someone decides to ignore the point by moaning about spelling, etc.

In the case of your last post, re desserts v. deserts, I thought I'd try to help out, only because it is a common slip up. Hell, it sounds like there should be two S's! Anyway, it comes from the root stock of "deserves," thus "deserts." Much love.

Understandable. I basically took a random guess as to what word (or spelling of the word) should be used in that situation. Unfortunately I was wrong, but I am relieved to know that it did not cause any sort of turmoil on the parts of my fellow posters. I thank you greatly for the correction and shall remember it, should the event of using such a combination of words ever seem to ancrypt upon my vocabulary of choice. Thank you, and have a pleasant tomorrow! :D

When you are wishing someone their "just deserts", generally you are hoping that their is a negative backlash from whatever actions that caused you to comment in the first place.

Now i dont know bout you Michelle, but if im wishing you to get your "just deserts" in protest over your actions, its certainly not a sugar filled treat im wishing on you. Im wishing that you be in "a desolate or forbidding area" because of said actions.

Yeah....and we did it in a thread about someone being senselessly shot and killed in front of his family. We're just a lovable bunch of coconuts, aren't we??

It could be taken both ways, really. Here is how I see the "one 'S' vs. two" debate.

Let's start by analyzing: DESERTS
A desert, as we all know, is a place of nothing that is really hot and sparsely populated. Hence, wishing that a killer would be sent here would mean that he got his "just deserts." He is being sent to a place of, more or less, death and a slow, rotting, decomposing one at that. In the past tense, it would show that the killer would have been "deserted." Thus, also giving us the sense that using only one "s" is the correct form

Now we will analyse: DESSERTS
Sweets, candies and what-not; this is usually what we think of. In the sense of using two S-es, this would imply that the killer got some sort of satisfaction from killing another. He could be enjoying it like a kid in a candy store full of toys, or he could be hating it like a kid in a spinach factory. Either way, if the killer were to enjoy such an action and thrive off of it, I believe we would say that he is getting his "just desserts."

You be the judge of which form is right.

Didn't he have a MACHETE under his bed for "protection"??

What kind of Father has an 18-month old baby in his house, with a MACHETE under the bed???

I feel for his family, but he was kind of a dirty player on the field. Live the thug life......

But best of everything for his family...

whoops....sorry,I thought you meant the actual spelling, not what one would use the word for in a situation.

Now,back on topic,I was reading on another forum that Sean Taylor's phone line had been cut prior to him being shot? Anyone else heard anything of this?

Yes...i spend some time over on extremeskins.com and there are many threads devoted to sean taylor, as you would expect. Several news reports have it that not only was the phone line cut, but the security system was disabled. More and more this is looking like someone who may have known exactly what they were doing. I just dont understand why a professional would shoot him in the leg. Unless this was a warning gone wrong.

I know, the whole thing is strange. I think more facts will be revealed about this. Also, it sounds like he bled and went unconcious before the girlfriend even called 911, she may not have been there when it happened, I guess.

not to threadjack or go off topic, but silverbullet is actually rightWrong! But I like the effort. The word comes from the third usage of the word:

Main Entry: 3de·sert
Pronunciation: \di-ˈzərt\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English deserte, from Anglo-French, from feminine of desert, past participle of deservir to deserve
Date: 13th century
1 : the quality or fact of deserving reward or punishment
2 : deserved reward or punishment —usually used in plural <got their just deserts> 3 : excellence, worth

This is taken from the second link on the first page announcing he had died:

"A day earlier, Taylor and his girlfriend were awakened by loud noises, according to family friend Richard Sharpstein, who learned the details from Taylor's girlfriend, Jackie Garcia. He said Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection. Someone then broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor, Sharpstein said. Neither Taylor's daughter, Jackie, nor Taylor's girlfriend were injured in the attack."

Was she trying to stop the bleeding? Did she run out to get to their baby? Who knows
It all does seem strange with news of the phone line being cut,the security system being disabled.......it all smells like more than a simple B&E or attempted robbery IMO

It's not a debate, or an alagorical usage. It's just about understanding the right word. But I like your analysis.

That's what I was wondering - it takes awhile to bleed to death - if it's an artery - you immediately apply pressure there - you have a window of time to save them especially with 911 - but like you said who knows what she was doing?

It's sad.. but not unexpected.

With all the weapon-charges, and the fact that his SUV got blasted by gun fire a few years back... It honestly doesn't SURPRISE me... it's shocking, but obviously he led a life that wasn't the same as mr. cornball church-goer.

If someone shot Pacman Jones tomorrow, i wouldn't be surprised.. would you?

I saw a doctor on tv explaining what should have been done to help Sean Taylor in this particular incedent. He said that the only way to have saved him was to actually stick your finger in the wound and apply direct pressure to his artery as you stated above. Someone without a medical background would have had a lot of problems knowing/finding the artery and doing the right thing for him. They also said he probably lost close to 20% of his entire blood supply before medical help arrived.

kind of makes one wonder if something in his past before his daughter came along didn't catch up to him
