Personally I find the style used as unproductive-and critical of whatever

Some posters will remember way back when.

Overdose used to complain daily about,
people going off topic,
personal attacks,
constantly-things became very nasty and moderators even got involved.

I thought at the time that these items of contention gave AFN a bit of culture and character of its own-which is what I like about it.

Tho-as an anti-Bush poster even I have been getting down by the constant

I could understand and would support anyone who was posting and responding to another posters angle on a topic-thats what debate is.

But I have to say-the posting style being adopted makes that very difficult.

When you get right down to it, paul, this is a subjective judgment call. I worked hard to make AFN into the kind of place I would want to post in by getting people riled, posting my opinions, and getting friendly with the types of posters I wanted hanging around here. People with personality. I might have made a lot of threads and hijacked much of the debate, but I was doing it with a goal in mind of making AFN a better place. You weren't around for much of it. I got into a lot of dustups with the mods over my posting style. Eventually I didn't have to work so hard anymore, people were having fun posting here and sharing of themselves. Now I could sit back and relax and have fun, and only interject myself when it looks like all the work I was doing was going down the drain. Like now. Those two jackasses are making all the things I did to get this place lively and interesting moot. It's time for fall cleaning.

When the general consensus of the membership of Allforums is that two posters are being disruptive because of their posting style an adult would say to himself, "I am really ruining the site and I will attempt to change my style to something less confrontational and more condusive to debate and discussion." Childish posters would simply say, "Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, that's how I want to post and screw everyone else." We seem to be stuck with two of the latter type posters and as would be done with any other spoiled children they should simply be sent to their rooms with no supper. In other words they should be ignored by the rest of the board. People should just not post in threads they start. They should not only not post in them, they should not even click on them. There are enough adult posters that we don't need to interact with the spoiled brats among us.

I originally signed up for allforums because I enjoyed the politics forum so much. Now, I barely check it. It's that bad.

I have noticed that you do not participate in providing intelligent postings regarding politics. You do not debate. You do not discuss the subject of any given politics thread. You bait posters and try to intimidate. You do not like posters who engage in intelligent postings and attack them. A "real" moderator? It's not a paid position, Jenny... And the mods' only REAL job is to delete spam and ban the spammers. It's only at the urging of many posters that they even get involved in conflicts like this. I would not call Nappy a bully, and I don't think anyone else on the board is intimidated by him either. An attempt was made to generate a serious discussion about one of the most momentous and potentially disastrous things this country and this government have ever contemplated doing, (attacking Iran) and not ONLY do certain malicious and infantile posters who are visiting that thread not want for it to be discussed, they are actively hijacking the thread with inane commentary about sports teams "kicking ass" and plays that happened in college football games.

And then people doing nothing more than copy-pasting anti Bush propaganda and not explaining themselves does not help the situation.

Check out the *If Bush Attacks Iran* thread. The writer of that article goes to great lengths explaining the ramifications of beginning such a move and the reasons for not doing it.........and how he intends to protest the move.

Basically it comes down to grow up, or just leave.

I don't want it to continue either. If you feel that banning a few people will help quiet things down, by all means go ahead. I'm just not sure if the situation has spiraled past the point where a few individuals causing problems can be banned and it will fix things. Since it's impractical to ban everyone who's been involved with the threadjacking and personal attacks and complaining about the mods, etc., I guess we just have to hope that giving a few of the worst contenders a couple days to calm down will make everyone else calm down also. Also, I think the banning of Shaman and Jenny just made things worse. Maybe we just need to fight it out.

It's made me not want to post nearly as much here.

If some 21 year old idiot goes to a bar and starts causin' ruckus... and pisses off all the people who have spent all their money at that bar for years... chances are the bar should take the veteran's side. And if the bar don't do nothin'.. then they do what Nappy has been tryin to do, take care of it themselves.

I dont know where you are from Decka,as i never really interacted with you on here before but.... If you want you use the bar scenario (and word on the street you love scenarios) If people like Shaman and Truth came into any bar I have ever been in and caused such a ruckas... Last thing they would have to worry about was a 3 day banning from said establishment... I have said it before and I will again.... one huge problem with message boards is people who usually abuse them with their words and postings are only doing so because in a real off line forum they would get their asses handed to them for such behavior... They are like the kids that got lunch money taken from them only now they are..all gown up in front of a dell... They are taking their school days back.. one verbal jab at a time. Look at it this way..... If we could reach through the screen and toss a right hook of the jaw of a fellow poster... How many times do you think someone *cough cough.Sedan* would correct someones spelling???? or someone making fun of another wife? Or Someone calling out the validity of another's actual marriage..... This problem in its purest essense is never going to go away..untill that right hook through the screen becomes reality.

I don't know about you, but I have never worried about getting punched for stating my opinion. I don't tend to hang out with people who believe that throwing fists is the way to solve problems.

I was playing into decka analogy.. Stating an opinion is no cause to get a punch thrown at you i agree.For example If every post we had back and forth were face to face... I am willing to bet no blows would of ever been thrown in the least. However if face to face someone questioned my marriage because of the venue calling it invalid,or said my wife was a "good lay" well then I am sorry..i only know of one real way to solve that. A useless suggestion IMO, because I seriously doubt that --and I challenge anyone to show me where it happened -- either truthout or Shaman started more than 3 threads in one day.

IOW, the *3 thread per day* rule would not have the slightest effect, for the simple reason that the endless bitching and complaining from the flagwaving neo-Con God-n-Country faction here was not about people starting more than 3 threads per day, it was the fact that --as much as they will try to deny it-- certain precious far-Right political leaders were being criticized and questioned that was making them so enraged.

No. It is political as far as those doing the whining were concerned, as is revealed by the fact that when another poster here posted TWICE as many threads in one 10 hour stretch than Shaman or truthout have ever made in the same period of time ---with the notable difference that said threads were not in any way critical of the Rightwing or of any extreme conservative politicians--- there was never one word of protest lodged.

1) Started a thread about a head of a 9/11 conspiracy group that resigned over a changing of heart (I guess in a round about way that is considered pro-right since most 9/11 conspiracies blame G.W personally)

2) started a thread about a true but mocking article about Iraqi grave diggers out of work because of the drop in violence in Iraq for the month of October ( Guess that is a pro right thread because it is positive news concerning the war,and it shows a tingle of media bias)

3)started a thread about some things posted on Moveon.org was factually incorrect,and found to be lies when challenged ( proving a biased media source wrong,,,,guess thats O.K unless it is moveon.org.... then it is just 'right-winging')

4) Posted a thread on how some questions were raised on how Hilary raised 380k in Chinatown at one crack,when in 04 Kerry made 34k during the whole campain... several things listed in the thread suggested things didnt add up. (guess if it is anti Hilary.. must be pro-bush)

5) posted a thread about the NY times and how they are biased (alright This might of been definitely Pro right,but fact is fact no matter no matter if you color it blue or red)
