18 November marks the anniversary of a very sad day in 'cult' culture.

The year 1978-the place-Guyana.

The bodies of 914 people,including 276 children,have been found inGuyana,
South America.

Most of the dead-members of the Peoples Temple Christian Church-had
consumed a soft drink laced with cyanide and sedatives.

However the body of the Peoples Temple charismatic leader,Jim Jones,
was said to have a bullet wound in the right temple,believed to be self
inflicted.

The deaths are being linked to the earlier killings of five people,including
US Congressman Leo Ryan,on a nearby airstrip.

Mr Ryan had been on a fact finding mission to the churchs jungle settlement,
-Jonestown-after allegations by relatives in US of human rights abuses.

into the church for tax evation.

Hi Afinertouch, So my friend may I ask this, "What does religion have to do with it?" In any given group of people there are going to be "idiots" that are easily led by other "idiots". This is the "basic nature" of some of mankind and has nothing to do with religion.

Afinertouch, my friend, I think Mr. Pualc is an athest that is promoting his religion. I don't think that Mr. Pualc would allow a free thinker into his cult. Hi Paulc, it is nice to meet you! Sorry about my spelling. I don't have any children, so thank you for maintaining the white race :) it is appreciated!

If I wasn't a Christian mystic, I would be a Catholic priest. I love the Catholic Church and I am not even Catholic.

In order to get post credits I just step into topics with no idea what is going on and make a fool of myself :) there has got to be one in every crowd.

What a church he had. What a leader he was. What a man he was. And then it all collapsed as he deemed himself next to God and moved his congregation into the jungle. And they innocently followed thinking they would begin a utopia.

When you hear stories of the survivors and how badly many wanted out and how they felt so trapped it is horrifying. Lost in the jungle with no one to turn to.

How it descended into utter chaos as he fed his manic sexual appetite with any woman he chose.

How things can go sour when people no longer question their spirituality, their leaders and their church.

Jesus said something about, "Shepherd my sheep." And relative to histroy, alot of His sheep got screwed by their shepherds. Maybe He was talking to some individuals that He knew at the time He was present on Earth. After all He did say that, "I will be right back." But at the sametime He also said that, "Only God knows truly when I will be back." He did do the will of the Father you know.
