View Full Version : enough is enough

i am now officially a citizen against virtually everything.
i've read history. i know how so few take so much from these mountains i love. literally rape, pillage, and burn. and leave the people who remain here with almost nothing. few jobs, if you count being a cashier, lawn boy, or housemaid of the priviledged few. if not, you move to N.C. or some such flatlands where your pay demands is less than those from there.
i've seen the priviledged few reap the rewards by using greed. how can you blame a farmer or farmers heirs taking high end prices for an acre of land, when the market pays so little for his/her hard earned work? the priviledged few pay a price and make a fortune so that those who can't be part of the game end up, eventually, with service jobs. let's face it, those high paying construction jobs can only last so long. just like the high paid strip miner with dreams in his head. when does a dream turn to nightmares?
a polluted stream, no trees, choked sky full of pollution from nearby or 100's of miles away, and miles of housing developments. and your grandchildren end up mowing lawn for the few who sit on their porch sipping mint juleps. like that feather duster in your hand?
i'd rather be against virtually everything and have nothing, than be a servant, or see my kids be one one day in an over priced area which is polluted.
this is a citizen and child of the mountains who says, " enough is enough." if you don't like it, leave.
instead of changing appalachia to YOUR standards, how about changing to her ways?
it ain't easy, but life IS hard. "mountains got its own ways".
how many are tired of our mountains being torn apart to provide YOU with electricity? tired of pumping millions of dollars while you see almost nothing except polluted streams, and land? houses everywhere for the highest bidder, while you get nothing? i'd rather have nothing , than work hard for nothing.
i'm not your usual outsider who tells you what to do. i am appalachian, i am appalachia. generations of my ancestors blood and bones are buried here. enough is enough.
generations of people who understand only violence. generations of people who only know rape, destruction and pollution, what can you expect?
well, i amy be the first in appalachia who says, "if violence is all you understand, then violence is what you get."
if you're free you'll never see the walls, if you're head is clear you will never free fall, if you're right you'll never fear the wrong.
if you destroy appalchia, you don't belong here, and all actions against you are justified. all for the future generations, who we pray will not be born into servitude.
for those who don't mind servitude, would you please do the rest of us a favor and pack your bags for the flatlands, so the work we have to do is less?
"we the people, are we the people?"

rant over, but i'd feel much better if a land developer and coal baron was hung for the crows to pick.
