I don't think Bush hasn't done something I respect since he spoke out against affirmative action. But here it is:

It's good to see someone attack "pork" spending, particularly when we're racking up so much debt. Granted, Bush's spending practices need help in other areas, but I certainly approve of this veto.

Correction, Bush vetoed a Health and Education Bill, but demands $190 Billion more for an unending occupation. That is hardly fiscal responsibility.

I don't consider Health and Education to be "pork". I consider it the people's business, which is what Congress is there to do.

The bill -- which Bush said was laden with $10 billion in "pork" -- would have funded the departments of Labor, Education, and Health and Human Services. It also would have funded projects such as a prison museum, a sailing school and a program to teach Portuguese.

"Congress needs to cut out that pork, reduce the spending and send me a responsible measure that I can sign into law," the president said.

For pete's sake, this President is the biggest spender in history, who single-handedly doubled our national debt and he has the nerve to whine about $10 out of $600 billion?!?

This is about Bush's extremist Anti-government conservative world view where he thinks that the only purpose of government is Military and Police and that "Education, Health and Human Services" are not the business of government at all.

Refresh my memory: how many times did Bush veto pork barrel projects when the House and Senate was controlled by the GOP?

Bravo!, Mr Bush!

Now. If he'd just show a bit of that same restraint when it comes to the billions of pork in the Defense appropriations bills.

what about the "pork" in all the billions of contracts to Bush's cronies ... including contractors in Iraq... and the billions of dollars missing there?
what about the 24 million for a Laura Bush Librarian's program????
