It's been out for a while but I just got it.

I bought the gold edition with the expansion, Forces of Corruption at Best Buy for 30$.

For Star Wars fans who like strategy it's an awesome game. It sticks to the story line but in an effort to deliver all the heroes it forgoes the timeline.

With out the expansion you can choose Rebels or Empire. With the expansion the designers added an additional faction known as the Zann Consortium.

It plays almost exactly like World of Warcraft or Starcraft, with a few exceptions in game play that set it apart. There is a limited number of troops you can have on the field and a set limit to how many units you can build at one time.
In Starcraft you could build light vehicles at the same time you were cranking out Marines. In Star Wars, there is a limit of 5 units any given time with any given unit. So if you're building troopers, troopers will be all you can build until they're done.

The one feature I like is the ability to switch from, ground to space to galactic conquest.
If all you want is a nice space or ground battle then the option is there to pick a ground or space battle. These battles typically last 20 minutes to an hour and a half. You simply build up your army and go to town.

However, if you're feeling ambitious then you can take on the entire galaxy.
Each fight can be choreographed by you personally or you can pick auto resolve. Has you win planets you gain ground and expand your capabilities.
Each planet gained allows you to build more space ships and ground troops.
Galactic conquest can be anywhere from 1 to 6 hours long, depending on how completely board you are.

Empire at War can be played on line with up to 8 people. There is also the option for single player, which is something I suggest you do before taking the plunge into the challenging world of server battles.

While the game itself is 30$ the servers to play online are completely free.

I think I like the rebel ships the best, those shields let you creep up on any station in the game. Once you get 3 or 4 ships around a space station, its all over.
Thats also why I like any ships with missiles when I'm not the rebels.

i'm a big fan of sending task forces out, and which ever one has a missile launcher in it goes after the shields on the station first:woohoo:

lol

36. Nothing wrong with video games. A friend of mine has X Box and when ever I am watching him play Halo, theres all kinds of older people on it. You can hear them has he talks to them.

It's actually taking the lead for family events. Whatever..

My brother and I play Medal of Honor with his son. He and I are in a clan that is mostly made up of father and son groups.

I grew up with Star Wars. Empire at War has everything a fan would appreciate.
I remember all through high school visiting friends house and Return of the Jedi or The Empire Strikes Back would generally be what was in the VCR.
My cousin plays it so I meet him online to woop his butt.

It was really the only thing we had in the way of decent Sci Fi, until computers took over.

My daughter likes DDO- Dungeons and Dragons Online. So I play that with her every now and then. 2 or 3 times a week.
I have a 9th level cleric halfling. A few friends of mine seen me playing it with her and got the game.

I'll leave something for you MMO gamers out there.

I guess so, but I moved out of my parents house when I was 15 and went to school and paid my own way. So any free time was spent clowning around.
I didn't have that luxury.

hey I like the looks of this game..
I am a star wars fan also..
There is nothing wrong with playing PC games or rpg games at any age..
I play guild wars and love it..I was in a guild with my sister and her husband and kids and some cool people all older then me..I learned and learned how to do things on my own...Now mike and I play both together and separate..I am in the guild he is with and we both have two accounts and play them both..
It is a fun way to just kick back and kill stuff that doesn't get you arrested for and releases a lot of tension.

Kudos for playing games... and doing it with family.
I think that rocks. It is not something Mike and I plan on stopping any time soon and we play well together and learn lots from each other.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. Some of the best times I ever had with my stepdad was playing a strategy video game with him.
