Revekka

Hello everybody. Sorry introducing a fly in the ointment. But I’d like to share my distress with haunters of this forum.
My name is Revekka Tzemel. I’m Jewish and I live in Latvian Jelgava town. Jelgava isn’t very big so there are no Jewish schools here. And I’m forced to go to Jelgava Basic school. I hate living in this Nazi rotten town. I hate going to this cursed school. Even teachers call me “jewgirl” and that’s not the worst of names they give me. Also I nearly reconcile myself that I’ll never be A-student. Because my best ideal works are appraised at “C”s. My classmates ignore me at best. And every evening I’m afraid to open my schoolbag for you never can tell if it is full of mud or they just threw another leaflet with threats into it. They idolize that bloody Nazi Andris Jordans who called to kill all Jews and Gypsies. He’s their hero. The first one praised Nazism unpunished.
I want to break away from this cursed country. But my Mum and Dad were born here. And they don’t want to leave their fatherland. IMHO the devil take such fatherland! I don’t have any future in Latvia just like thousands of my coevals. Thanks a lot to our government and to the Prosecitor of the Riga Regional Court for allowing Nazi swines calling to our extirpation, depriving us serene life and beating us in dark nooks. And by the way we are democratic country, we are EU member. And where is that very EU I wonder?

Wow, that's terrible.
Do you have any money or job skills?
Even just a little money and a FEW job skills?
Come to America. Even if you can't afford the passage, stow away on a freighter or some such.
I'd run away if I were you.
After you come to America, become a legal citizen. Do this right away. It's not that hard. We'd appreciate that. Then, after you make some good money, you can send for your family.
Good luck to you.

Better yet, move to Israel. We really don't need any more stowaways coming to the United States and as a Jew you are automatically a citizen of Israel.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

When I was a kid I was discriminated against.
Going to school, you had a reasonable chance of getting caught by the boys
from the 'other school'. If they caught you, you were guaranteed a kicking.
It got so bad with my school, that compulsory wearing of uniform was dropped.
Some years it was simply too dangerous at times to venture into the area
were the school was located, and eventually at 14 I left.
Starting a life as a man at 14 is a bad move, never ever try it.
You realise on day one, your not a man, but a 14 yo boy, however, Id made
my bed, now I had to lie in it.
Eventually I touched for a bum job in a market, stacking boxes of bananas,
yep bananas, I smelt of bananas for a year after I left, after receiving a death threat, looking back, I was lucky, some guys at the market didn't get a threat.
And never made it home from that market.
Next job:
Filling and loading bottles of propane gas, I only got it because it was extremely hazardous work, thinking back I used to sit down and have a
cigarette between the gas bottles, now I know why I was always told to
work alone, in the winter, the bottles stuck to your hands, so you had to be careful handling them in sub zero temps.
That job didn't last either tho, somebody else wanted it, so I was let go.
Got to the stage times were hard, no work, no money.
Had to sign on welfare, a humiliating experience, were you stood in line with hundreds of others in the street, until you were called in to 'sign on'.
The welfare sent you to a gov office downtown, to get there you had to go thru a british security fence, spread eagled and searched, pushed around, Irish jokes thru at you, seen a couple of guys one day pushing back, got batoned to the ground and dragged away.
Anyway, got to the big gov office, spread eagled and searched again, more abuse, bit my lip thinking about them other fellas.
Eventually got to the desk and interview, 2 minutes into the interview, was told ''I didn't speak the Queens English'', and interview was over, told to leave the building, more searches, more checks.
I eventually got some work and saved every penny to buy a car, and starting a bit of taxi work, I learnt to work for myself after that.
The moral of the story being.
Stick at school, thru all the discrimination, as long as your life is not in danger.
Get an education and go to the United States, were you can walk down the street without the fear of being attacked for what you are.
Something I never had the opportunity to do.
God bless and take care.

As I understand it Latvia has always hated the Jews. Indeed, even before the Nazis arrived in Latvia, the Latvian police were already murdering all the jews they could find. Sounds as if nothing has changed and you have my sympathy.
Suggestions, stay in school until you can get a passport. With an EU passport you should be able to go anywhere in the EU that you wish.
Do you have relatives anywhere else in the EU?
Search the Internet, choose a country and get out, as soon as you can.
