Probably both, many of her Era would indubitably pronounce.
Because her savoir faire of worldliness and politics knew few
bounds. Her sense of style was admired and copied and her
social convention was gossiped about, probably more than
BOTH Paris And Britney.
I'm bringing up the name of true American Greatness.A Roosevelt.
And Alice Roosevelt Longworth, the flamboyantly outspoken daughter
of President Teddy Roosevelt.
She dominated Washington circles with her ability at being D.C.'s
most gifted Hostess and Wit.However shy in public, was in
historic greatness when within her own close circle or one-on-one.
Some prodded her into running for office, being so delightfully
consumed with the topic. But again, her shyness at public presentation
was a little kept secret, and she didn't need to overdo her popularity
with the spoils of office holding.
Eccentric by nature, even considered the offer to be
" an honorary homosexual " in the late 60's.Her start upon earth
was tested almost from birth. Both her mother and paternal grandmother
dying in the same house, just 2 days after being born.

Aggressive and quite the spoiled one, upon being told she was
in all liklihood TO attend a Conservative school for girls in New York City,
pulling out all the stops,Alice wrote, " If you send me I will humiliate you.
I will do something that will shame you.I tell you I will. "
Also was fond of smoking Cigarettes on the White House Roof, she was.
I like History.
Ya niver knowed what kind of character will ascend for yet another day,
another time.
" Princess Alice's " Bio will be on the shelves soon.
I bet it's a good read.

My guess IS by Tommorow morn,I'll have 21 Views and No Reply.
That is discouraging.
That No one herein, has the ability or fortitude to appreciate
History and it's relevance,beyond the Paris/Britney phase.
Juts chalk it up to the source,I guess.
And Yuz all are The Source.

If Posters aren't interested in THE most remarkable lady of
both Politics,Fashion and Social convention of her day, than what
does that say about Our flock.?
I am only what I am due to an exhausting effort to study thru\
Biographies and Novels the Human Condition and other efforts
that mark mankind as unique and worthy of discussion.
I doubt that a Paris or Britney will last beyond this decade.
Not unlike most Movie Stars.
But Alice was neither a Movie Star or passing glimmer.
Her type may well extend into our half century, like it or No.
History and People are only as important as those qualified to
reflect and Make important thru demand.
I hope Miss Alice Roosevelt Longworth a long History, not because
she earned it,but ruther because Society need it.
Now,more danny ever.
A Society is only as Grand and noble as Writers choose to make of it.

She was a character, and quite snobbish, unlike her father.

She buried a voodoo doll of Mrs Taft when that woman became First Lady.

Apparently Princess Alice felt the White House belonged to her....a trait not unknown among her sucessors.

of FDR, " He is my father's fourth cousin once removed.... Politically,
his branch of the family and ours have always been in different
camps, and the same surname is about all we have in common....
I am a Republican .... I am going to vote for Hoover....
If I were not a Republican,I would still vote for Mr.Hoover this time. "

her side of Family politics.

My Grandma, who was a Voorhis, was also distantly related to FDR.
She didn't like him either--she called him a "disgrace", a "Communist", and, when she was feeling especially ornery, "Emperor Roosevelt."

F.D.R was a well-respected leader.Not deserving of 4 terms but
did build the Churchill alliance that broke Hitler.
Did manipulate the Banks into - The New Deal - also.
Teddy was one of my Favorite Presidents.
" Speak softly and carry a big stick "

" The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price,
peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, and love of
soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life. "
Letter to S.Stanwood Menken { Jan.,1917 }

LOL, not in my family, he wasn't. He also tried to pack the Supreme Court.
Still, I'll give him some credit for being a good war-time Prez. But then again, how could we lose?
