I detest everything Phelps and the Westboro Church stand for but this is an incorrect and dangerous ruling by the court.

The church members behavior is hateful and should be condemned by everyone but this is just a thinly veiled attempt at censorship. It is using the threat of massive fines to force people to stop saying things others don't like.

Censorhip begins by censoring statements that are almost universally condemned. Then something else is censored, and again something else. Cencorship is incrementally imposed and every effort to start censoring people's words should be opposed.

I find that very odd.

The Reverend Phelps and his congregation adhere closer to what the Bible says than virtually any other religious group in the US. They devoutly follow the will of the Biblical God.


They try to conform to the word of the Bible to the letter, promoting, exactly as Yahweh instructs his followers, intense hatred for homosexuals and advocating that they be executed.

Why such a group of True Believers would be singled out for taxation is a mystery.

No, they are equal opportunity ass holes. They care not about the soldier's sexual orientation... only for the publicity that they can derive from the protests at the funerals of any soldier (I thought the same myself, until they announced they were coming to a local man's funeral... and I did a little research). I think they have changed their tune from "God hates fags" to more of "God hates America" these days.

But the problem is that many tens of millions of Christian religionists in this country, who shape our national dialogue on "moral" matters, who are a major factor in determing our mores as a nation, who exert tremendous influence over our political and ethical and judicial systems, most certainly DO maintain, steadfastly, that Biblical writings are "God's perfect word".
