Had your night cap? Looking forward to some relaxation? In a good mood?
I’ll fix that. From the Washington Times (http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071030/FOREIGN/110300056/1001):
NEW YORK — The U.N. specialist on illegal executions plans to probe the use of deadly force by U.S. troops and military contractors in Iraq when he visits the United States next spring.
But...wait. What about all those “illegal executions” by the people we’re fighting, you know little things like blowing up big bombs in crowded market places, killing women just because you can, beheadings, etc? Our intrepid U.N. investigator doesn’t see any point in investigating those:
Asked whether he also planned to visit Iraq to look into ethnic cleansing and militia killings there, human rights rapporteur Philip Alston said he saw no point because his movements would be too severely restricted by security concerns.
Tell me something...what in the name of sanity happens to people when they are elected to high office? Does their IQ drop as their prestige rises? Why isn’t someone in our government telling this politically correct U.N. clown to pound sand? But...here’s the icing on the cake. Instead of saying, “go away, little man, and come back after you’ve investigated the barbarians we’re fighting,” we’re doing just the opposite:
Nonetheless, a U.S. representative at the Friday meeting of the so-called Third Committee, which deals with economic, social and human rights issues, said the Bush administration welcomes Mr. Alston’s visit.
So, is this the first step to answering to the U.N. and having our officers and soldiers put on international trial for supposed crimes? Think about it.
Still having a good evening? Told you I’d fix that.

Wow...leave it to the U.N. to do the stupidest thing they can with the least personal risk:rolleyes:

In other words they'll only investigate those who promise not to kill them. That'll solve some serious problems.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of "investigation" do you propose, and what would it accomplish?

This reminds me of people who say that you can't complain about the policies of the US in Iraq unless you also publicly denounce OBL and terrorism. What's the point of denouncing terrorism, or as the UN guy said, what's the point in "investigating" them? Doubtful it will have much effect on the problem.

The question, properly phrased is what is the purpose of the UN investigation?
I have no objection to those who complain, as long as they exhibit an understanding of the circumstances in which events take place. That's not an attempt to exonerate anyone. Merely a desire to see an honest examination.

To probe the use of deadly force by U.S. troops and military contractors in Iraq.

That much ought to be manifestly evident to any person who read the article.

All the good little flagwaving toadies like you like to incessantly crow about this nation being a "nation of laws".

Well, a "nation of laws" ought to investigate when people from said nation KILL other people through an unwarranted and illegal use of force, don't you agree??!?

As to the bizarre suggestion to "investigate the terrorists"............?!?

Huh?!?.....

.....doesn't the fact that this nation is engaged in an insane trillion dollar war effort to combat them satisfy your desire to confront these people?!?!?!

What is the UN going to do, make us attack ourselves when we dont comply?

Nothing.

This country is the world's leading exporter of State terrorism, and the U.N. has little to no power over it.

The has little to no power over anything. It is a joke and a waste of money.

Would you prefer a U.N. that has power over the United States?

If not, why bitch and whine about them not having enough power?

Ah the UN,a fantastic set up when backing US approved policies,
but a useless, toothless entity when it dosent.
