the miami seaquarium in miami florida has undergone MUCH criticism from animal rights activists.the seaquarium began its life as an "abusement park" in 1955.since 1973,63 dolphins,54sea lions, and 1 orca has died there.some due to strange things such as electrocution.

much of the criticism is aimed at the housing of the star attraction orca,Lolita, who was captured in 1970 and has been at the saequarium for 40 years now.her tank is illegal, not meeting captive orca gov. standards.

the captive orca,Lolita, also known as Tokitea,is 22 ft. long.yet her tank is only 20 ft. deep in the performance area, and 10 ft in the back medical pool.it is not much bigger than a hotel swimming pool.

since her mate, hugo, died in 1980,Lolita has not seen another orca for almost 40 years.this also angers many activists due to the very social nature of orcas.

many petitions are set up encouraging the freedom of the captive, but all have failed to persuade Lolitas owner,mr.hertz.he even promised to build lolita a bigger, better tank...25 years ago.he lied.

I think lolita deserves to be in the wild with her family.she has earned the seaquarium enough money already.this is ridiculous and cruel.all those other animals in the seaquarium, they dont belong to humans, they belong to themselves.get lolita out of that fishbowl Mr.hertz! it isnt fair.it is very unjust!

feel free to agree or disagree.i respect your opinions.my opinion is just that lolita needs to live her life w/ her family and be free to do what she pleases, just like all of us do.
