View Full Version : Colts vs. Patriots next week

I'm interested in seeing how many people have drank the cool-aid. We all know that there are 2 unbeaten teams in the NFL right now, and that they are on a collision course next week. Now, as much as the media is hyping and praying that both teams get through this week unblemished, It really isn't part of this question. I just simply want to know, have you bought into the "Patriots cannot be beaten" mentality that the media has portrayed? Will the Pats go INTO INDIANAPOLIS and beat the Colts for the first time since 2005?

Let's take a look at some of the factors.

1. Schedule
The combined records of the teams Indy has played so far = 20-18.
The combined records of teams New England has played so far = 17-28

2. Defense
Yards per game= Colts 3rd, Patriots 4th
Passing YPG = Colts 1st, Patriots 4th
Rushing YPG = Patriots 9th, Colts 14th.
Points Allowed Per Game = Colts - 15.8, Patriots -17.4

3. Offense
YPG = Patriots 1st, Colts 3rd
Passing YPG = Patriots 1st, Colts 6th
Rushing YPG = Colts 6th, Patriots 7th
Points Scored Per Game = Patriots - 39.9, Colts 32.2

Now everyone should know that I am a Colts fan, I have been for about 12 years (ever since captain comeback Jim Harbaugh baby!)... and as much as I hate Tom Brady, I definitely respect a stat line of 27 TD's and 2 INT's.. that is insane. The media has fallen in love with the Patriots, and while Brady is airing it out against the worst in the league (miami, NY Jets, Buffalo)... Manning and the Colts are taking down some of the best (Tampa, Jacksonville, Tennessee) ... So while I'm hearing crap about how the game is pretty much already over and the Patriots are just UNBEATABLE.. the pressure is on them to come into OUR HOUSE and beat the best QB in the league, yes i said it, Peyton Manning.

So finally, I'll just ask the question... regardless of whether they are both unbeaten.. who wins next week... The Colts or the Patriots?

Whatever the outcome, it's going to be a HELL of a game, and these teams are more evenly matched than you are lead to believe by watching espn.

In the other thread you started you lament the media hype for this game -- now you are doing your own little part to do the same.

Classic Decka. :)

I have to admit Decka, I have drank the kool-aid. the Pats look unstoppable!

Althouugh the Colts are a great team, I just think the Pats will have their number. I see Manning having a bad day (which is bad for my fantasy team I will have you know) and throwing his hands in the air and moping off the field after one of several picks.

BUT, I hope I am wrong! I hope the Colts beat the crap out of them. I am sick of all the Patriot ass kissing and want to see them get their asses haded to them by a Peyton Manning TD barrage.

um, i'm not talking about "the battle of the unbeatens".. I'm just talking about the game that I personally circle on the calender at the beginning of the season every year. Sportswriters and my thoughts have different standards. If I were a sportswriter I wouldnt be talking Colts vs. Patriots.. i'd be talking the up-coming NFL schedule for this week, and talk about how it could be a trap game for both clubs, and go in depth on THIS weeks game.

My question was about whether or not people have bought the media hype that the Patriots are unbeatable even though on paper it seems the Colts have the edge.

I could see where you could think I was contradicting myself.. but if you look at the basis of the questions in both topics.. you'll see that they really don't mix with each other. I'm a Colts fan. regardless of if we beat the panthers or not, I'm super-pumped to beat the "unbeatable" Patriots. It's not on my head to be responsible in my reporting... it's just emotion with me. ESPN, however, needs to curb their jerking off of a "battle of the unbeatens" when it could not even happen that way.

They are the sexy team right now... the two teams have basically traded spots. Back in 2004 when Manning was bombing out 4 TD passes every week, Brady was just winning. The Colts are more well-rounded. They have the passing game that is better than the Patriots in some aspects.. and they have a better dynamic running back in Joseph Addai. The guy that makes the Patriots so unpredictable is Wes Welker. His slot quickness is what has f'd so many teams so far. Randy Moss is just a freak. Brady doesn't even have to throw it to him in stride, he just bombs it up into double or triple coverage and Moss has some how managed to come down with it. How long that will work I'm not sure. All I know is that the Colts passing game has better route runners, while the Pats have a better O-line and a freak in Randy Moss.

Plus, the Pats have the weakest conference in the NFL, while the Colts have arguably the strongest. I'd love it if the Colts could play the Jets and Miami twice a year.

As much as I hate the Patriots, they have the single best offensive line in football. Brady has had all day to pass all season, and I don't see the Colts putting much pressure on him. Thus, New England in a close one.

That said, I hope I'm wrong.

I voted for the Colts. They're flying under the radar, have an underrated defense, and have no pressure on them. Dungy knows exactly how to beat them.

Basically, whoever wins has a good shot at going undefeated and making sure those '72 dolphins don't sip at their wine for the first time since that glorious year.

Both teams are very explosive. I think it's going to come down to which team has the better pass protection for the deep balls, accross-the-middles and screens.

...but yet, I hate the Patsies...Colts all the way!

Coming off a stunning upset loss to the 'Skins this week, i look for the 'Pats to rebound next week.

What's even funnier is that there's a good chance of that happening as well.

It's not their fault the Redskins didnt show up to play. I wish they had embarrassed them worse than they did. To be honest,i saw no one on the Redskin side of the ball angry after this loss. They were all out on the field smiling and laughing after that severe ass whippin. Didnt bother them at all.

Maybe they're not sore losers. Plus, it's not like anyone thought the Skins had a chance in hell.

Are you kidding me? If you're laughing and joking after a loss that bad, you don't care about the game (not like many players do anymore).

It's their job. It's not a game to these guys. They better damn well care whether they win or lose, cause they are getting paid millions to perform.

I'll confess to being one of the few who thought the Redskins had a chance.
Of course, after the blowout/running up the score, this made me look like an idiot.

The Patriots are making enemies all over the NFL, despite what Joe Gibbs says. There's no need to humiliate your opponent. This kind of unsportsmanship will come back to haunt them eventually. No team stays on top forever.

Well the line just came out:

Patriots by 4 1/2

I was talking with a buddy of mine yesterday... and the game just needs to be played. I'm not even going to watch all the analysts blow smoke up each others asses this week. The game will be decided at the line of scrimmage, and if the two teams go into the 4th in a close score, it'll come down to whose offense can get down the field... basic shit, but that's the bottom line.

The Patriots have a far better line right now, if Freeney and the boys can't get pressure on him it could be a long game. If it were up to me I'd blitz the shit out of Brady, and make sure his ass was on the the turf every play. Don't let me sit back in the pocket for 10 seconds like other teams do.

I have the Indy D.
Do you think I should get rid of them for this upcoming Pats game?
I have Tampa on the bench.
Son thinks I should but he hates the Colts on principle.
I think I'm gonna keep Indy for now, just a feeling.

I think the important question here is whether Harrison is going to finally play or not. All I know is whatever week I decide to finally bench him is the week he'll pull in 3 or 4 TDs.

Decka

he might do that this week.. new england's secondary isn't that good. Manning has shredded it the last 3 times he has faced it.

Did you hear what Bill Cowher said the other day---how it's just a matter of time before someone takes out Brady in retaliation for the Patriots running up the score on everyone?

I hope it doesn't happen during the Colts game. I don't like the Patriots and cannot stand Belechik but Brady's all right as a person--it' would be a terrible thing to have the Colts tarnish their reputation by such an unsportsmanlike play.

But it will eventually happen--sooner rather than later--I agree with Cowher on this.

Decka
11-02-2007, 08:48 AM
I agree with him... someone will take a shot.. and it's all Bellichecks fault. What a piece of crap that guy is. You know the Colt's won't do it, they actually have class. They kneel and don't run up the score and go for it on 4th and 1 to get a TD when they are up by 40 points.

I realize it's not Brady running up the score, he's just doing what his coach's tell him to do. But he, or Moss, will feel the resentment of a bad team who is pissed off... It's kinda like the ol' baseball rule. If your pitcher drills their player, it's EXPECTED that the next half-inning, the opposing pitcher will drill your guy right back.

Don't forget, to add insult to injury the Pats get the Niners first round pick next year, which at this point is looking like a top 10 pick at the least, maybe top 5. The rich get richer.
