Osama on the situation in iraq.

http://www.lauramansfield.com/j/default.asp

From iraq is lost to the present situation. How's that "the US has lost in iraq" chant from the progressives amongst us working out? Anymore prescient forecasts you guys would like to offer.

Waldo,
were are you going with this?
Iraq as you know, has now become a 'policeing action',the US won the
war a long time ago.

General Pareteus has said he wishes the 'surge' to continue for
sometime,so its impossable to gauge how effective it has been
until it has been finished, then see what happens.I truely hope
that for the Iraqi population, the nightmare is finally coming to an
end.

However,I also think that it was such a waste of people-time-
money-effort and lost oppertunity by the Bush Administration,
that next year they will simply walk away and leave the next
Administration to pick up the pieces, and go back to the drawing
board on how to tackle the 'war on terror'.

You were one of the guys telling us it was lost.

Merely pointing out that the pessimists were overly so. Expecting a country that had undergone such a significant revolution to become the ME equivalent of Norway was nonsense.
The surge's early results are tangible. What's ironic (and good) is that you now advocate patience in evaluating (something you weren't willing to do a year ago) the situation.

As to being a waste of time etc, only if you were content with the status quo. Only if you were content to write off a portion of the world for another couple of generations. We've been thru the mess that was iraq and the ME pre-'03. The big bang has given the iraqis the opportunity to take control. Like the europeans, japanese and koreans before them they'll get the chance to re-invent their future under the auspices of the US umbrella. The US will continue to be involved in iraq for awhile yet. No matter which democrat gets elected you won't see a radical departure in policy. They've all (democrats) said they can't see leaving during their term.
It will be interesting to see how history looks back on this.

You were one of the guys telling us it was lost.Ive always said that Iraq was a lost cause yes.
Because it has the ability to blow upagain, when you least expect it.

What's ironic (and good) is that you now advocate patience in evaluating (something you weren't willing to do a year ago) the situation.Well, fair enough, your right,I did oppose it,and still do,tho as I said, you cant evaluate how sucessful a 'surge' is,until its over.
It will be impossible to decide whether the insurgency has run out of steam or whether the 'surge' was successful, personally,I think a little of both.

History is written by the victorious eh.

I think your jumping ahead of yourself a bit waldo,if you think Iraq willend up like Europe-Japan-Korea,tho maybe there is something in that.
Europe-Japan-Korea still have US groundtroops stationed there 60 years after the fact.
I ve said since the Democrats original knee jerk reaction to Iraq was 'pull out'
that that was a mistake and that even tho the Bush Administration have a bad Iraq Policy, the Democrats have NO Iraq Policy.

It'll never be a one way street. Never has never will. The direction of the path is what's important.
It'll take awhile for the sides to completely reconcile and the bad guys are still out there. Remember the devil ... never sleeps but goes about seeking whom he may devour.
