....and found out that we are neighbors to 6 PitBulls. 5 right behind us and 1 to the left of our yard. Hmm...had no idea they were there before we decided to take the place. We have a Yorkie, Chihuahua, and a Feist (squirrel dog). I feel sorry for those dogs right behind us. They're on logging chains and tied to cement posts. Our dogs won't even go near the fence. So we're a bit concerned to say the least but so far they've been fairly quiet. I will say this much, I don't like the guy that comes out to feed them...he's an azz.

Not a good sign when any dog is attached to a logging chain and a concrete post.

no es,they shouldnt' be tied up like that. That gives off the impression that the dogs are unreliable and could strike at any moment. If that's the case, they should get rid of them.

let1959,keep a close eye on your little dogs and if possible, don't let them outside alone until you get a feel for how these other dogs react.

Sounds scary, girl. If I were you, I'd get (1) a nice little legal, registered handgun and (2) an 8ft wood fence between me and the herd of pit bulls.

Why anybody would want to own one beats me.

Why anyone would condemn the breed is beyond me. I've had one now for 8 years. The most loyal and gentle dog ive ever owned.

If you show a dog love, chances are its going to be fine. If you give them the Mike Vick treatment, it wouldnt matter if it was a yorkie or chihauhau, it would be violent. The breed gets a bad rep from the bad owners.

I usually agree with you Havok but not in this case. Pit bulls have been bred for years for particular character traits which make them inherently untrustworthy. While some pitbulls might be pussycats many of those pussycats have suddenly turned killer.

In my opinion most men who own pitbulls use them as an extension of their penis. Look at what a man I am. I own a pit bull. I am not saying that is the case with you but I do think it is the case with most men.

Naw...my little guy is a big ole sissy. He is an aggressive barker when someone new enters my house, but he's doing it from a corner where he can run away, lol.

I got him from the pound, and he's been a buddy ever since.

Any dog can turn on you frog. The problem with pit bulls is that inner city trash use them for their sick pleasure's. It's not the dogs, its the owners.

I do agree that the breed is more attractive to bad owners and that there are a lot of cases of attacks. I just dont think the breed itself is at fault for this.

I would have to agree with you HaVok...I don't condemn the breed, I condemn the owner(s). But it's obvious the guy that lives behind us is using these dogs for something other than companionship. The 2 that are closest to the fence have dug holes to the foundation (meaning the cement used to drive the fence poles into) We had to throw railroad ties and huge rocks to fill in the damage. I kinda fell for the red one but don't trust the black & white one at all. I watched this fool, and yes he is black, feed his dogs one day. One of the dogs knocked the bowl out of his hand and he just left it for the dog to eat off the dirt. His backyard has no grass to speak of and hardly any shade for these dogs. The dogs have dug huge holes and the only reason I see for it is these dogs are bored. And they are kept in the rain, etc. One of the other dogs is just about skin & bones. It's disgusting. I sometimes want to pick up the phone and call the SPCA but figure they would know who called and they would retalliate. We went to Home Depot yesterday to look at wooden fencing...'cuz what we have now is chainlink. I was thinking more like digging a mote and building a brick fence! I know if I owned one of these dogs I would have turned it into a big mushball...I baby talk all my dogs.

Man, i hate to hear about mistreatment of animals. I hope that one of the other neighbor's report this. I dont blame you for taking steps to protect your dogs. Good luck with your situation.
