Members of Congress have apoligised to a Canadian who was seized in New York in 2002 by US officals and sent to Syria, where he says he was tortured.

Syrian born Maher Arar told a congressional hearing his 10 months in a Syrian jail was 'hell'.

A Canadian Government inquiry cleared him of any involvement in terrorism.
Syria denies he was tortured.

My first thouht on reading the above article was,
'why send this man to Syria'?.

The Bush Administration, have Syria on its axis of evil list.
You would think that a man carrying a Canadian Passport would be sent to Canada, rather than to a country he may have fled for whatever reason.

It says in the article that he was born in Syria...perhaps he was a citizen... eh? :)
