View Full Version : Is Sexual Orientation a Religion?

The dictionary defines religion as, "2. a) any specific system of belief, worship, conduct, ect., often involving a code of ethics and a philosophy. b) any system of beliefs, liked to such a system [example: humanism as a religion]. 4. Any object of conscientious regard and pursuit."

Could homosexual orientation be construed as a religion? And come under the constitution as freedom of religion? I don't think that they are into animal and human sacrifice. I don't think that they have to do illegal drugs to be a homosexual. Their god might be different than our Christian one. Can one worship sex in a strange way? Can one worship a god that doesn't mind?

What do you guys think?

I do not believe any sexual orientation has set code of ethics,or a set philosophy. There is ofcourse a preference yes,but a philosophy i dont think so. it is too vague to classify it like that...

I dont know though tuck... you present an very interesting point. My head wants to dismiss it right away.(respect it as interesting though still) but my heart isnt so sure the answer is so clear cut

Kind of an odd way to look at things, Tuck. But then again, that's what you're good at. :p

I think the definitions you chose to post are the most general definitions of the term "religion". #4 can apply to almost anything, and while you might say "she studied her math books religiously", that doesn't make Mathematics a religion in the generally understood meaning of the term.

Plumbing is a religion. I leave daily offerings on the altar of the porcelain god. ;)

Just think of how you're punished if you don't leave that daily offering! Talk about an evil god!

LF :) my point is that it could be. Mormans aren't Christians. SeventhDay Advents aren't Christians, and Jehovah Witnesses are not Christians. And that is just to name a few. All homosexual folks have to do is start a church called the "Unity of Humankind" and everything that happens to them from that point on is "religious persecution". And they do have the right to worship God/The Divine in their own way with their own lifestyle.

And I think that if the Mormans wanted to push it in this day and age, that they should be allowed more that one wife. That concept was persecuted to extiction but our Government and it was religious persecution.

I don't know LF :) do you want a Queer Church parked on your block :) there is precedent you know.

My main problem with multiple wives besides the whole fact of it being hell on earth with simply one....... is that is the process at times in some extreme cases it is being done against ones will and sexual abuse on young females can happen. You see it doesnt circumvent any of our laws to have a healthy worship of christ..... to have sex with a 13 year old girl does happen to however...

I would rather a homosexual church than a crack house or a methadone clinic

whether we agree with the lifestlye of homosexuals or not,to assume all of them "like little boys" would be like saying all asians cant drive,or all irish drink,or all french have body odor..... on second thought......

There are churches specifically for gay Christians. I have been in one; if you're ever in St. Petersburg, drop by 5th Ave N just east of U.S. 19.

tuck Well Tuck I am sure that most if not all Mormons,Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witness consider themselves Christians. I mean the Mormons are The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Why do you say they are not Christians? Because they don't go to the same church as you? Also there is a church called MCC that has been around for a long time. I think the 60's. I believe MCC stands for Metropolitian Community Church. They have them all over the united states and perhaps outside the US I'm not sure. Also there is a good documentary out now at the theaters called 'for the BIBLE tells me so" which, "Confronts, with whimsy and hellfire, the clash between religion and homosexuality." says New York Magazine. So there already is a gay church-MCC. www.forthebibletellsmeso.org (http://www.forthebibletellsmeso.org)

Hi Mesk :) welcome to the topic!

All Jesus said was that, "As you judge so shall you be judged." Jesus didn't say that we couldn't judge, He said that we had better watch ourselves if we do :) That is all He said.

And about me being a Christian, "I am like no Christian that you have ever met or ever will." No normal Christian would "ever" consider me a Christian, "Ever!"

Oh and this, technically I am a prophet :) and you know how those people can be :) totally nuts!

Hi Afinertouch and welcome to the topic!

First of all, I do not go to church.

Second, go to a Christian messageboard and try to post in the "Inner Sanctum of the Saved", if you are a Morman, Seventh Day Adventist, or a Jehovah Witness. They will tell you that you are of Satan and ask you to leave.

LF I agree with you! One is enough :) !

And I don't mind Churches either, and I hate drugs!

Oh, I also don't like those dog gone yogis and their "Kundalini Uprisings!"

I would rather that homosexuals found comfort in Jesus than some yogi and his/her Kundalini witch craft stuff. ( Now I sound like "Mesk" talking about Christianity :) )

tuck

LF, you don't seem to be such a bad sort. See what happens when one rushes to judgement :) and "tuck" opens his mouth to change feet :) I am pre menopausal, it happens to us prophets all the time :)

Well don't believe everything people tell you or that you read!!!!

Son :) You and I would get along better if I believed what people said and what I read :) !

If I haven't experienced it, it is not real until personally experienced. Period.

All of reality is to be tested to see if it is real. Otherwise it is just a maybe :)

Or an intellectual game. I do injoy that game also :)

What I don't know is how someone can come from Texas and be so slow. But then that is maybe why you live in California. But at the sametime people who live in Northern california should be smarter :) they do live closer to Washington :) But at the sametime Oregon folks are pretty slow :) But then all the slow folks from Washingtom moved to Oregon. Poor Oregon!
