There is only one place that I've ever felt at "Home"; Pittsburgh, PA.

Unfortunately, I only lived there about three years, and just because the fates have set their sights against me, I will never live there again. However I am only about 2hrs away, so I visit whenever I can.

Atlantic city would be nice too i reckon! Well I have been to both places and Las Vegas is the better of the two! A city I would like to visit is Vancouver,British Colombia. As far as moving I'm happy where I'm at which is 9 miles north of San Francisco which is one of my favorite cities anyway. If I was to move from here and it was out of California I would probably pick Denver, Colorado. I lived there for three years and think it is one of my favorite cities that I have lived in before.

My favorite city is Salt lake city, Utah..
Places for me to want to see are the UK..paris next year.
I would also love to see Greece, New Zealand, Italy...where mike was stationed..Grisignano. I also very much want to see Ireland.
That is a place mike and I talk about going for honeymoon that or Greece.
I have always had a fascination with the ruins and history of Greece. Loved Greek mythology.

Valentina;
DC =Washington D.C., the District of Columbia, which is where the American government is centered.
Hope that helps you.

I haven't been to too many cities in the world, and I want to go to all of them! Top on the list I'd like to visit are NYC, Vancouver, Paris, Kyoto, Florence, Mexico City (been called the greatest food city in north America by many foodies I know), Buenos Aires, Hanoi, New Orleans, London.

I have been to Vegas, Toronto, San Francisco, Tokyo, Miami, San Diego, Seoul, Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong. Vegas is a lot of fun. Toronto has great eats and is fairly intellectual. San Francisco is expensive. Miami is too much driving, but great beaches and seems fun if you are very rich. The other places I visited while young, had fond memories of good food in each one.

Lived in Taipei and live in Atlanta. Both fine.

Been to Rome and Venice a few times, most recently to Venice last week. It is a pretty city but I always feel a bit restricted there. Rome is awesome but of all the cities of Italy I like Firenze (Florence) best. It is a city made for walking and the Uffrizi is one of the world's best museums. The view of the Ponte Vecchio is unique in the world.

Of cities I have visited outside the United States I would prefer Munich with its castles, Rathaus and Alte Peter and Unser Frauen churchs. It also has great museumes and a wonderful city park. It even has great alcohol free beer, something important to me.

Sydney feels like home to me because it is so much like New York City, cosmopolitan with just about anything in the world available.

To visit but not live in I like Amsterdam with its Red Light District filled with coffee houses where the one thing they sell very little of is coffee.

London is great and easy to get around in and despite what people say English food is pretty good. Nothing like fish and chips with a bit of malt vinegar or bangers and mash.

Paris is not all it is cracked up to be. The people are rude and everything is overpriced.

There's no way I could possibly pick one. They're all so different and offer so many interesting and varied things to do/see.

In my Best Places I Ever Visited list, I'd definitely include:

Chicago - Wonderful architecture. Friendly, fun people. Fabulous shopping. Unparalleled museums.

San Francisco - Exciting. Cosmopolitan. Uncommon. Stunningly beauitiful (both the city and the environs). FUN.

Leningrad* - Historic. Beautiful buildings. The Hermitage. Catherine's Palace.

Amsterdam - Unusual. Historic. Anything goes. Friendly, helpful people who actually seem to like Americans.

London - Busy and bustling. Historic and modern at the same time. Terrific architecture, gardens, and museums.

* Ok. Ok. It's St. Petersburg, but it was Leningrad when I was there.

I agree with Fran about Chicago. Aside from NYC it has some of the best museums around. It also has the best hot dogs to be found anywhere in the world. There is a place called Hot Dog Heaven in Fort Lauderdale, another great small city that sells both New York and Chicago style franks. I always get one of each, a NY dog with saurkraut, relish, mustard, and onions and a Chicago dog with tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, and pickles.

Foolsworth is right about Heidelberg, especially the shopping area and the area around the suburb of Handschuh near the Alte Brucke. Like Florence, Heidelberg is made for walking. Half of the city is closed to vehicular traffic. The brooding castle hanging over the city lends it an air of history.

Heidelberg University is one of Europe's oldest and was the setting for the movie, The Student Prince. Most of the students live in the suburbs and ride their bikes to the train station and take them on the train, leaving them in bicycle parks that contain hundreds of bikes. That is what my cousin did when she attended the University.

I always like cities with lots of bicycles although they are more dangerous for pedestrians. Amsterdam probably has more bikes per capita than any other European city. People there tend to have two bikes, an everyday bike and a Sunday and holidays bike. They don't even lock their everyday bikes but simply leave them lying all over the place. Tradition says that if someone steals your bike you just go and steal someone else's. Bikes tend to be more community property than belong to any one individual.

Not sure what it's like these days, but I absolutely loved New Orleans once upon a time.

I was there in April of this year, but really only saw the French Quarter, for the most part. Since we rode our motorcycles in, we didn't venture outside the Quarter because when we got them parked, they stayed that way until we headed home. We were told the outlying areas are not too safe these days and to stick together, wherever we went. I'd only been there one other time, so I really had no experience to compare it to. It was great to see everyone happy and trying to rejuvinate themselves with everything they have been through.

Giordano's also makes the best damn pizza I've ever had. And you're right about the museums; I've been to the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and the Art Institute of Chicago, and I loved them all. (The Art Institute is my favorite.) There's also the Museum of Science and Industry, the Conservatory, and the Lincoln Park Zoo, which I have not been to. All in all, though, Chicago wins. Not because of museums, hot dogs, or pizza, but rather because although Illinois state politics are thoroughly corrupt and incompetent, at least we don't have Hillary Clinton as one of our representatives in the Senate. :lolhit:

Been to both Frankfort and Ascheffenburg and can't say I found much to recommend either of them. Frankfort is simply a loud, annoying city where the I.G. Farbenwerke is the main attraction and other than the schloss Aschaffenburg is a sleepy little place. I spent time in both cities while I was in the army. In my opinion neither can hold a candle to Heidelberg or even Giessen. Each to his own though.
