I harken back to this Movie as a bellwether for GenXers.
It's a very simple movie.2 young men { Matt Damon,Casey Afflick }
drive their slightly worn car out to a site off a very straight
highway. They stop at a trail and start to walk, quite briskly and
with much gusto. As if their in need of a good trek to break the
humdrum of their lives.
Before too long, that brisk pace quickens into a flat-out run and
then they fall down... as if OK,it's over.Let's Go back, the fun walk
has ended. We'll merely retrace our path and Go Home.
But wait !.This Trail, off a dead straight Highway, was in a forlorn
Desert. And the 2 young men { both named Gerry } were highly
releckless in their bearings as well caution to a completely new
surrounding. They didn't even bother with taking any bearings, let
alone a single candy bar or bottle of fluid, between them.
They were too cocksure of themselves.
Which seems to be the order of the day,for most GenXers.
Which is sad,in a way.
To not have the necessary sense,God Gave Geese.
Which to my knowledge,No other Generation before has had the
Luxury of having.Or in - Gerry - the misfortune of experiencing.
Which is why this Indie IFC weekly presentation strikes such a
chord. How 2 seemingly intelligent GenXers types, could be so
recklessly lackadaisical and uncaring, when it comes to surving
amidst,things beyond their experience.
Which is also, why so many find Media Matters,MoveOn.org,
Michael Moore and the New Democratic party such a Kick.
It's nuthin but Feelgood Polemics w/o any the hardship or
tribulations.It's actually what the 2 gerry's encountered.
And allegory of Al Gore' ism.
Need I say Moore.
