Irish Travellers live in Ireland UK and United States.
In Ireland they are discriminated against, some might say,ah,thats not very nice, but they have a reputation for theft, violence and dirt.
They are barred from virtually every Bar I know of,and nobody likes them.
Any travellers near you,or have you had dealings with them?

What do you mean by, "travellers," paul? Here it just means, "someone who travels."

In this country, Gypsies (http://www.smithsonianeducation.org/migrations/gyp/gypstart.html)is a rather generic term describing a variety of Europeans with a "bad reputation" (with or without eveidence), whereas the Irish Travellers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Traveller)are perhaps not as well known, but more likely to be criminally inclined.

Yeah Ive heard that America has Traveller problems.
I always thought they were a left over from the Famine.
I remember a story whe I was a kid, someone telling me that they were evicted fom their homes during the Famine, like most other people, but were that poor they just 'travelled' the roads to this day,tho Im not so sure now, there may be some truth in it.
They speak with a brogue like no other on this island,Irish people seem to be able to differentiate but foreigners dont, for some reason.
Like I said above, they are barred and hated in every county in Ireland,or tolerated thru fear.
There has been major efforts to settle them,North and South,to no avail.

Travellers around here would be native Bedouins. All Arabs descend from Bedouins, even the ones who live modern western lifestyles.
I don't know if there are still nomad's but they are not associated with theft and crime at all; they are associated with having backwards and traditional ways of thinking, and for being extremely generous and welcoming.

Romania's full of them. Thank God now they can roam about all of Europe, so they don't shit in Romania any longer.

The U.S. has the "Terrible Williamsons", a group whose forebears came over from Scotland. They are based in Cinncinnatti, Ohio where they return every year to honor and bury their dead.
They are known for being scam artists who will tar your driveway or roof with used motor oil. They also travel around selling poorlyl made (redwood) furniture from the backs of trucks.
Most of them have the same, few first names in an attempt to frustrate the police.

That was interesting..I think every country has their own travellers..We have Native Americans -politically correct term...or people of aboriginal descent..
Indians to people who are derogatory to them.
They have been pushed and pulled and now some that leave the reserves have no clue how to survive in the bigger towns and get swallowed up and spit out.
It is sad to go downtown and see them just lost...that is the only way I know how to describe it really...They don't know how to fit in..
Sad really.

Don't you notice that you rarely ever find actual natives living in a country? Usually, expatriates are a much higher percentage. UAE is so cosmopolitan and nationals only make up 11% of the entire population. My mom and I joke that come 50 years, people will point at us and say oh look, some native Emirati's! And maybe throw peanuts at us, lol...

Romania is the natural home of Gypsies, thus their name 'Roma',theyve been in the area of Romania and Bulgaria for centuries.
I dont think Irish Travellers and Roma Gypsies are related.

Why do you think? They're stealing, cheating, and breaking every law possible. So yea, I'm glad they're finally moving the fuck out. Go ruin some other country.

I wasn't trying to say they're related, just commenting on your definition of "travelers."

Irish Travellers are discriminated against, thats for sure, but,
nowhere on the scale to were Gypsies are discriminated against in Eastern Europe, especially Romania.
To this day they live like third world people,
in an already third world country.
