Turkeys Government on Thursday warned the US that a congressional bill recognising the mass killings of Armenians during WW1 as genocide could jeopardise relations between the two countries.

Firstly, why is it so important for this incident to be regonised as genocide by the United States?

Secondly,if it was genocide, the Bush Administration would like it buried, and forgotton about,to keep all cosy with Ankara, shows what sort of people are in charge in Washington.

Armenian lobby in the US must be pushing for it.

Yeah,
but,not that it would ever happen, thats like Irish Americans having the Famine marked up as genocide, what good would it do.

Trust congress to continually stick their noses where they don't belong. There has to be more important issues facing the movers & shakers in D.C. than what happened in another country so many years ago.

Armenian lobby in the US must be pushing for it.
or the anti-war lobby, knowing how dependent we are on Turkey for operations in Iraq.

I beleive you can hang this one on the democratic house. Maybe Pelosi could explain what good will come of this, but i'm doubtful.

The idea that anything would be better than bush gets called into question with such nonsense.

our government is famous for meaningless gestures. This is simply another meaningless gesture. Sadly, the democrats do not ralize that sometimes what they see as an easy, victimless way to win some votes could actually cause tensions a world away. They do not realize that the things they say can affect people, and are taken seriously.

Tom Lantos seems to be pushing this bill,if a Democrat is elected to the White House,he will become a household name.

Lantos:''The Turkish government will not act against the United States because that would be against their own interests''.

another meaningless gesture by Pelosi that had unforseen ramifications.

Well so far Id say that the Democrats calculations of Turkeys reactions have been way off the mark.

Interesting tho, somewhat different approach to what we normally see coming outta the White House.
If the Demos get the Presidency,it could make for an interesting 4 years.

It wasnt the white house, it was Nancy Pelosi kissing the ass of Armenians in California, not knowing it could spark a war and cost us a strategic ally in the region.

Yeah I know it wasnt the White House.
Im saying if the next resident of the White House is one of this gang,
things could be interesting

Interesting? That is one way to put it, I would call it disasterous. If the republicans are spending like drunken sailors, the dems will spend like drunker republicans.

Excellent move by Congress... now all we've got to do is indict Genghis Khan for war crimes.

Then the Mongolians would be rioting in the streets!

paulc

I dont think there is many streets in Mongolia.

All it takes is one Paul. Actually, it would take two.

paulc

When I was a kid I was pretty good at rioting,
why 2 ?

Travh20
10-12-2007, 05:30 PM
because it would take two to make it street"s"

I thought you were gonna tell me a tactic I overlooked.

I think tactical rioting is an oxymoron.

I think tactical rioting is an oxymoron.
On the contrary,it was used as a distraction most of the time,so other things could go on unnoticed.

Amazing how when one country recognizes something as true or untrue, it can have such a powerful effect on others.
Incidentally, I'm interested in the member's opinions on this matter. Do you think it was a genocide or not?
