View Full Version : Where did all the Water Go?

I have a question of science for those of you that have brighter minds than my own :)

When I put Ice cube trays in my freezer filled with water, sometimes I wont go back to check them for about a week. Whenever I wait that long, when I open the freezer again, the trays are all empty.

If I refill them again with water and come back only a few days later, the water in the trays have all frozen into ice cubes, but the trays are only half full.

What type of sorcery is this that I'm seeing here :@@:

Do you have a roommate who is lazy?

Evaporation still happens even in sub-zero temperatures.

It just takes longer, that's all.

It's not evaporation, it's sublimation.

It's not evaporation, it's sublimation.Right, that's what I meant, sublimation. :)

Anyway, the ice gradually turns gaseous.

Right, Vile?

Indeed so. :)

Is water still considered 'fresh',after being in a frozen state for a period of time.
