So, as many of you know, I'm a student at a community college. I'm planning on transferring to a four-year university to finish my bachelor's degree. I've had one particular university in mind for a while (McDaniel College if you're curious); it's the only one I could really attend and still live at home with my parents.

Anyways, I had a personal interview with the Assistant Director of Admissions at McDaniel today. It went SO well! She basically said I'm a shoo-in, and I'm going to be eligible for at least $12,000 of scholarship money per year. :) (Of course that's only about half the tuition but... she said I'd almost definitely get more since I have a 4.0 GPA.)

So it looks pretty simple. Since I'm a transfer student with more than 30 credits I don't have to worry about recommendations, my application/essay deadline for next fall is April 1, and I should get my results back within a month of applying if I send it in after February.

So basically I'm super happy right now. I'm going to the college of my dreams, I get to continue living at home with my family, and it seems as though my life is shaping up perfectly right now.

Congrats, DF! I'm sure you'll do great!! Isn't it amazing how much you can accomplish when you just put your mind to it? I have a feeling you'll be a success at anything you decide to tackle.

Like I've always said... you're one smart cookie!

Congratulations girl! I am excited for you. It seems to me that once you realize what it is that you want you put your whole heart and soul into it. 4.0 average is amazing. You go girl, you have life by the tail. You are going to rocket.

Superb, DarkFantasy. I'm really happy for you!
What is your major?

Thank you, Michelle and Chey. :D

My major is history. I've always had a passion for it, but honestly didn't start considering it as an actual major/career possibility until I began my first college history class.

DF,

I just checked out McDaniel's website, and I must confess I am concerned:

http://www.mcdaniel.edu/

They tout themselves to be 'Bi-Bi', and boast that "McDaniel's Deaf Education Program is bi-lingual and bi-cultural".

Please be wary of these deaf 'Bi' types, and avoid getting involved in any lesbian shenannigans. I know that you're one smart cookie, but even a sharp young gal can fall victim to these deaf/bi-sexual campus gangs. I'd hate to see you smoking Galloise's and wearing a beret, and having to toss some sturdy chick's salad or something like that.

I've always taken school seriously. I love school and I absolutely adore learning. I like being at a community college because most people aren't there just to party.

P.S. - Paul, did you just call me a chicken? :p

That's great news, DF--what time period are you especially interested in?

DarkFantasy96
10-08-2007, 02:47 PM
Phyrex - That's great. UMD is a good school... I just didn't want to go there because of the big classes and impersonal atmosphere. It's pretty much the default transfer school for people at the community colleges of the DC metro area.

Rendova - I like medieval history best, logically overlapping a little into the Classical period and the early modern. My biggest interests within medieval history are the economy, fashions of the times, medicine, and the lives of women.

No, not at all. I passed by the skin of my teeth because I just didn't give a fuck when I was younger. I basically bullshitted my way through high school.

My friends were all pretty much the same way, but amazingly enough, we all managed to score 28 or higher on our ACTs, and 1350 or higher on our SATs. We weren't stupid - we were just young and immature.

A lot of guys are like that. ;)

Some of us girls too. One of my male buds wrote in my grad book I was the only girl he knew who made it through high school without cracking a book. University I worked my ass off... no spoon feeding, it was more challenging... high school sucked academically. Now socially, it was amazing. Some of the best students in high school did not do well in university. That was kind of a surprise actually.
