Well for disneyland in Florida you are on your own..But if you got to disneyland in LA...I can hook you up with so many things to do and see and have some great pictures from my trip there..hehe
My advice is go on line check things out in the area and try travelocity.com or expedia.ca...or just get a good travel agent and passports for all the kids...

Both seem to be great places and omg would love to do that again..lol
Your daughter is going to give you a run for your money hehe.

Do: Anything and everything. If you see it and you like it (even a remote, tiny bit), do it. Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller Coaster at MGM was one of my favorites. I suggest hitting that up too.

Don't: Rent a car (if going to Disney is all you're doing). Though I was down there for a High School band trip, most hotels offer shuttles to Disneyworld for a fairly small fee. Besides, traffic is horrible trying to get into the park.

Disneyworld= florida
Disneyland = LA

Sorry my bad lol
I agree about the driving..
WE did sea world and a bus took us and picked us up at a set time same with universal studio..
Driving from the airport to the hotel in the limo was a trip from hell for me..They drive like wild people. I got out of the limo and almost kissed the ground. lol
Driving is very highly over rated. The beaches were close by cheap taxi ride and there were great shuttle services..

plus I want the feel of driving an American car,in America.
Just remember what side of the road to drive on..lol

Whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do not rent anything on the OBT, the Orange Blossom Trail. It is a dangerous road inhabited by hookers, theives and low lifes.

The high season at Disneyworld, not Disneyland, is July and August. That is because most American schools shut down during those months. During that time the crowds are enormous, lines are long and prices for motels are higher. If you can come in October or November the crowds will be smaller, the lines shorter and the prices cheaper. Even better is the end of November or from the beginning to mid-December when the hurricane season is over.

If you book now you will have no trouble getting a motel room as there are zilliions of them in the area. You can even book right on the Disney property.

The major car rental firms in the area are Hertz, Avis, and Budget rental. I am pretty sure each of them has a rental club that is free to join. I would join all three as they offer great discounts, ie, one free day with a weekly rental or a free upgrade to the next class of car.

Be prepared to drop a few pounds, not the belly fat kind but the wallet kind. The place is expensive.

While you are in the Orlando area there are other attractions that are well worth the visit, Universal Studios being chief among them with Seaworld running a very close second. You should really try to not miss either of these.

Depending on the ages of your kids they will either enjoy Fantasyland with Cinderella's Castle, Capt. Nemo's submarine and It's a Small World, or EPCOT more. EPCOT has exhibits from different nations and is like an exposition.

I am sure that if you come you and the kids will have a great time. It is a good time to come because the Pound is doing great against the dollar. I would buy my dollars now while the exchange rate is so good, better than two to one, or you might want to wait and take a chance it will get even better.

Stay on Disney property!! That's the most important advice and the best way to get the most out of Disney. You can park for free or you can use their transportation and never use your car.

Try the website allearsnet.com. It's my favorite for Disney info. I've been to DisneyWorld in Florida about 10 times. I'll be going in 2 years when my son gets a little older.

Also you will need to stay at least a week and even then you WON'T see everything. It's huge and there is SOOOO much to do. Planning is half the fun though!!

I'm jealous!

Depending on how long your stay will be I would add Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center to the trip.

While Disneyworld is inland their are lots of great beaches within driving distance. Hell, if you are there in January or later I am only about three hours south of Orlando and right on the beach.

Any time I've ever been it was in the dead heat of July and very crowded. I hear March and April are a good time to go. Although you might hit the spring break crowds. The temp will be perfect.

Paul,

I'm usually down there in March and April and they are the two most perfect months weather wise. Remember, Easter is early next year, March 23rd and lots of schools have Easter week off. Plan for either the beginning of March or some time in April. April would probably be better. Expect temperatures in the low to mid eighties and little rain. Florida's rainy season is in the summer when you can expect a thunder shower around four every afternoon.

With girls that age you really should go to Seaworld and Universal Studios. They have lots of stuff geared directly to that age group.

Just tell them you're the boss. You will take them to Disneyworld but you will set the itinerary. Let them know that if they can't abide by that you just won't go. You and your wife would probably enjoy a week at the Sandal's Resort in Saint Lucia more anyway. Tell them you'll leave them home and take off for the Caribbean.

I would go with staying on site in one of the hotels over staying in a villa a ways away. You can usually go in much earlier then the general public..the environment is so much more different on site.. I agree with waiting on the vehicle and playing that by ear.

Also let the kids have some say in what events they might want to see and do, but bottom line to them is YOU will plan the trip..This is a treat not a right. Other wise kiddo's when you get old enough you can book your own trip to Disneyland or Disneyworld...
MY parents always promise they would take me and my brother..never happened but he and I did it a couple years ago and we had a blast and would go again in a heart beat..
Some thing mike and I are talking about doing together..

Frogger
10-01-2007, 11:45 AM
Staying on site is like staying at a resort. They have great swimming pools and restaurants. Besides, the kids and you are probably going to be so tired after a full day at Disney that you will go right off to bed. It's a big place.

Caveat: Before you book be sure to check that it isn't the annual Disney Gay Week. There is nothing wrong with gays but I don't think you would want to be surrounded by thousands of them, many quite flamboyant any more than you would want to go if they had a fundamentalist Christian week and you were surrounded by people who wagged their fingers at you for hoisting a brew.

I gotta agree with Frogger on the months to go. November-December is good,I went in mid November, but it's a little chilly then. April is the best month in Florida IMO. It's warm enough to wear shorts and tees and not be baking like a potato in the sun. Should still bring sun hats and lots of sunscreen though. The last thing you want is a bad sunburn to ruin the vacation. Whatever you guys plan, you'll have fun either way:thumbs:

Last time I went to Disneyworld was at Christmas time. It was wonderful, temperatures in the 60s, so I was just as comfortable inside as outside in the clothes that I wore. That's good in when you're going in and out of stores and restaurants and rides. When it's warmer outside, say 80, you're gonna want shorts, but then the A/C is on inside and it gets cold!

I really suggest going to Disneyland over Disney World. At least for your first trip. It is a lot less stressful, if you exclude the longer plane ride. I prefer Disneyland to Disney World and here's why....

1| Disneyland does some things better in my opinion:
-The Tiki Room (DL has the ORIGINAL show)
-Toon Town in DL is bigger and has more to do when compared to Toon Fair in DW
-The Pirates of the Caribbean ride is longer and has more drops and detail in DL
-It's A Small World is visually superior in DL

2| Disneyland has several things The Magic Kingdom does not:
The three big ones!--
1.Indiana Jones (just waiting in line for this ride is amazing!)
2.The Matterhorn roller coaster (one of the first roller coasters ever!)
3.Submarine Voyage: Finding Nemo (you actually go underwater!)

Other minor ones:
-The Alice in Wonderland ride
-Mr. Toads Wild Ride
-Pinocchio's Daring Adventure
-New Orleans Square
-The Tarzan Treehouse

3| Disneyland has California Adventure:
Sure, Disney World has MGM Studios and the Animal Kingdom, but California Adventure has all the major rides that are in both of those parks (and is right across the street from DL -- no bus required!).

-MGM Studios has the Tower of Terror and the Rock N' Roller Coaster, whereas California Adventure has the Tower of Terror, too, and California Screamin', (a roller coaster with a loop inside the shape of Mickey!).
-The Animal Kingdom has a water rapid ride, but only has 1 drop; whereas in California Adventure the Grizzly Rapids has 2 drops and is much longer and more fun.

(Plus, when California Adventure is done being remodeled, it will be far, far, far superior)

4| Disneyland is more convenient:
Everything is walking distance at the Disneyland Resort, unlike the Disney World Resort. Once you are on the park grounds in DL you can walk to and from all three areas (Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney) in only a few minutes. At Disney World you must wait for a bus to go to any other areas, ride the bus for 20 or so minutes, and then finally reach your destination (makes things stressful!!). I don't want to ride a bus in my happy place!

5| Disneyland is the original:
To put it simply, Disneyland has a charm and feel Disney World will never have. Walt Disney actually stepped foot, walked around, and was fully involved in the creation Disneyland, unlike Disney World.

----------------------------------

Good things about Disney World: It has Epcot (which is very, VERY cool), a bigger (but not necessarily better) Downtown Disney, and a few fun water parks.

So my advice for anyone who has not been to either: go to Disney World for Epcot, and then go to California for the original! ;)

Most Disney fans agree -- Frogger would be one of those who disagrees. But hey, if you actually read what I wrote it is easy as cake to see why Disneyland is far superior. :)

Disneyworld is larger, more modern, has better upkeep and EPCOT is simply amazing.

There are also lots of other attractions near Disneyworld; Seaworld, Universal Studios, Cape Canavaral.

If you want to travel just a wee bit you also have Daytona Beach, Saint Augustine (the oldest city in the U.S.), a great nature center with Allligators, wild boars and thousands of birds.

Besides who wants to go to California anyway. Their ocean is on the wrong side.

I've only been to Disney World (in fact, I was born only about half an hour from there, my mom's side of the family lives around Orange City/Daytona. Epcot was definitely my favorite part. Next time I go I want to eat at all the different restaurants from around the world. We only ate at Mexico and I believe Japan last time I was there. Of course I also like the It's A Small World ride! It has become easier and easier to disprove the myths Disney World enthusiasts claim.

Disneyland is old, old, old. It is small and outdated.
Many parts of Disneyland have been remodeled and completely renovated, unlike Disney World. These include: All of Adventure Land (a new layout was created due to the addition of Indiana Jones), new Peter Pan’s Flight, new Rockets in Tomorrow Land, a new track for Autotopia, and a new track for Space Mountain. Anything that could have been truly “outdated” in Disneyland has been replaced by something bran-new, whereas Disney World is left with the already crummy duplicated attractions, that are older then the remodeled and renovated attractions at Disneyland. Whose old now???

Also, California Adventure is newer than most anything in Disney World or Disneyland, but is located right across the street from Disneyland!

As for size, when you compare just The Magic Kingdom to just Disneyland (not California Adventure), the size is hardly a difference. The Magic Kingdom has 107 acres and Disneyland has 85 acres. But when you take into consideration that the Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion and Indian Jones all go underground in Disneyland, because the water table is lower in California, it helps even out the difference of size by adding longer and more in-depth attractions.

Disneyworld is larger, more modern, has better upkeep and EPCOT is simply amazing.
It is easier to upkeep Disneyland because the weather is less intense, which thus provides for many more flowers and plants throughout the park. And as discussed earlier, most things in Disneyland that needed to be modern are now more modern then those over at Disney World.

Here is basically why Disneyland beats Disney World, hands down:

With the addition of California Adventure, giving me just as much entertainment and fun as both MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom combined, I’m left only envying Epcot. However, once the remodel of California Adventure is complete (a billion+ dollar project), I’m positive I won’t miss Epcot as much.

You just can’t beat the original Tiki Room, the look of It’s A Small World, the larger Toon Town, the superior Pirates of the Caribbean, and seeing Tinker Bell fly from The Matterhorn to Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Disneyland.

The best aspects of Disneyland are the convenience being able to walk everywhere brings you, (giving you more time inside the parks--no hour commute to each park), the extra attractions, (The Matterhorn, Indian Jones, Submarine Voyage etc.), and of course, the magic knowing Walt Disney actually stepped foot inside the park.

Here is something that puts it into perspective, because although Disneyland is smaller, it has a lot more to do:

Attractions at Magic Kingdom but not at Disneyland
- Philharmagic
- Country Bear Jamboree (used to be at DL but was removed)
- Carousel of Progress (used to be at DL but was removed)
- Stitch’s Great Escape
- Swiss Family Treehouse (used to be at DL but was changed into Tarzan’s Treehouse)
- Tomorrowland Transit Authority (used to be at DL but was removed - was called the People Mover)

Attractions at Disneyland but not at Magic Kingdom
- Indiana Jones
- Matterhorn
- StoryBook Land Canal Boats
- Alice in Wonderland
- Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride (used to be at MK but was removed)
- Casey Jr. Circus Train
- Pinocchio
- Roger Rabbit Car Toon Spin
- Davey Crockett’s Explorer Canoes
- Tarzan’s Treehouse (used to be Swiss Family Treehouse at DL)
- Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Treehouse
- Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage

Seems to me that Disneyland, when compared to The Magic Kingdom, has many more things to do and usually has better themed (It's A Small World, for instance) rides. The only thing Disney World has going for it is Epcot. Sorry to say.

WHEN YOU CAN'T ATTACK THE MESSAGE, ATTACK THE MESSENGER.

Frogger just can't get over these facts:

-The attractions that need to be more "modern" and "new" are more modern and new in Disneyland, due to them being remodeled and completely renovated. Disney World is stuck with the old crap from decades ago.

-Disneyland offers many rides and attractions Disney World does not, such as The Matterhorn Roller Coaster, Indiana Jones, Submarine Voyage (AMONG many others, those are just the three big ones!).

-Everything in Disneyland is walking distance, no bus required! You in-turn get to spend WAY more time inside the parks and you don't have to worry or stress about buses.

-California Adventure, especially after the 1 billion dollar remodel, makes up for MGM Studios and Animal Kingdom combined over at Disney World.

You just can't beat the original, baby! You know, the one that Walt stepped foot in.

ok, have fun.
I will! I went to Disneyland twice this year, and once was on my family's annual trip to the original happiest place on earth -- Disneyland.

My friend who was there took a wrong turn after leaving Disneyworld one nite,
and ended up in a place called Celebration.

Went back the next day and checked it out-loved it.

Let's not forget the resort hotels at WDW. They are attractions in themselves.

And there is a lot more land in Florida to expand WDW for years to come.

I'll stick to WDW.
