Could the war have been averted?

Tuesday evening it was revealed that Saddam Hussein had offered to go peacefully into exile just one month before the invasion of Iraq for a staggering $1 billion. The offer was revealed in a transcript of talks from February 2003 between George Bush and the then Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Azna at the President's ranch in Texas.
If the transcripts are legitimate, the President appeared to have been convinced that Hussein was serious about going into exile. The transcripts of the conversation were published this week in the Spanish newspaper, El Pais.
"The Eqyptians are speaking to Saddam Hussein. It seems he's indicated he would be prepared to go into exile if he's allowed to take $1 billion and all the information he wants about weapons of mass destruction," said President Bush.
And then, when Prime Minister Azna asked him if he could really leave, Bush said: "Yes that possibility exists. Or he might even be assassinated." However, he added that whatever happened, "We'll be in Baghdad by the end of March."
The White House has thus far refused to comment on the revelations, however, if it can be verified, it will most certainly raise questions of whether the pricey four-year war could have been prevented. Afterall, $1 billion is small potatoes in comparison to the entire cost of the war, and it was only just yesterday that the Bush administration asked Congress for another $200 billion to fund the war in Iraq and conflicts in Afghanistan.

Paying him $1 billion would have been a no brainer, however the deal breaker, for me, would have been: being "allowed to take all the information he wants about weapons of mass destruction". That would not have been wise.

He could have gone to Columbia University and been a guest speaker on the evils of America.

I don't buy that Bogus BS fer a sec.Bush even went so far as to
GO on public TV and issue a final 48 hr. plea for Saddam to
go quietly in the Night,er else.
Bush and the White House DID try and convince Saddam to
go into Exile. But theres also the question of those
2 Diabolic,Murderous,Raping Sons { Uday & Qusay }.
Those 2 Sadist Sons were also part of Saddam's Removal.
Papa even Fled apart from his 2 Loving and dotng Sadist Sons,
going underground, where he chickenshit his way around
commanding his Republican Guard.

The worst thing you can do is to buy off dictators. They either go with what they can manage to steal and hide or they go with nothing. You don't pay them to leave.

YOU do know that those 2 Sadist Sons... Uday & Qusay, begged
their father { Saddam } to authorize by Legal Note, the removal of
$ One Billion dollars in currency mostly US 100 dollar bills, from
a nearby World Bank.Uday & Qusay, used an armed Truck and had
cardboard boxes loaded to the gills with the moola.
This was before the Invasion.
Seldom mentioned or reported by the mainstream Liberal media.
They got some boxes of those US $100 bills when in
pursuit of Uday & Qusay.I believe Uday and Qusay couldn't
effectively lug around big cardboard boxes of loot, while evading
imminent capture. Some favorite Palaces of Saddam had some of the loot.

No, the worst thing you can do is allow a dictator-in-waiting to steal an election.

I call bullshit, Freethinker. This isn't the first time you have accused the President of stealing the election. Either put up or shut up.

Point out exactly how Bush stole the election. Be specific. Don't just fall back on the usual Democrat crap talking points.

Which votes did he steal?

Which states did he steal?

Which voters did he disenfranchise?
