Bad word? (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003898448_webplates23.html)
MERLIN, Ore. — A Merlin family has been ordered to turn in the vanity license plates for their cars because the state finds their Dutch name can be interpreted as offensive.
Two of the plates are 5 and 7 years old. One was issued last year.
The plates are now invalid and the 90-day temporary registrations sent to the family in June are also likely expired, according to David House, spokesman for the state Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division.
The plates were deemed offensive by a 10-person DMV panel that approves custom, or "vanity" plates, which cost an extra $80.
House, who serves on the panel, said the reasons were the sexual references that can be associated with the name, which can be treated as a verb.

As long as they refund the money, I don't see a problem. C'mon people, it's a vanity plate. It's not like they're demanding he change his name. Get a bumper sticker if you care all that much.

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine a few years ago, but this was in West Virginia, not Oregon.
Bill Humpmysister had a vanity plate with his last name on the Humpmysister family vehicle, and bigger than Stuttgart, some uptight prude at the DMV refused to renew the tags when the time came around.
Bill got 'em though. He re-applied for a vanity plate with his wife's maiden name on them:
Fukurcousin2.

How could the term UDINK be considered offensive?
DINK stands for Double Income No Kids.
It is not derogatory, only descriptive.
It seems the committee in charge of approving vanity plates has gone off the deep end.

It is ridiculous to make them turn them back in, especially after 7 years with them, and I don't find UDINK as offensive as I do Sparky2's friends plates.[Which, by the way, I find hard to believe]

but the point is that "dink" is also a racial slur aimed at Vietnamese...odds are that "honky" and "bohunk" also would not be allowed.

ok, it took 7 years to catch that...they ended up working for the state for a reason:lolhit:
sadly, it was likely because someone complained 6 years ago.

I would understand "honky" not being allowed, I've always thought like Frogger- DINK stands for Double Income No Kids. I've heard it used more derogatory, as in a vagina, I didn't know it was a racial slur.
What is a bohunk? I've never heard that either.

Oh. I thought it was slang for penis, sort of like calling someone a prick... except a dink is stupid and a prick is mean. I had no idea it was a racist remark. Luckily I never called someone a dink around here then, we have gazillions of Asians...

I didn't either, and I thought it was slang for "girly boy" or "pussy" or weakling, I've never knew it was a racial slur.
I don't know what the other one meant either, "6ULDV8". I'm glad you asked. :o
