It's only been 11 months, and I still have 13 to go, haha.
And beer is for pansies for the most part, I don't drink it normally. I'm a liquor guy. However with that much beer in one place, I don't think I could resist. Especially with so many different kinds to try and such.

The good thing about the Oktoberfest, apart from the beer is.
You go in not knowing a word of German, after a dozen tankards of Lowenbrau you come out speaking like a native.

Well then that is a good reason to come to Canada. Stop by for Octoberfest. My city has the largest Octoberfest celebration in the world aside from Bavaria. Ours starts in October the weekend before our Thanksgiving. It usually brings in over 1/2 a million people every year. I don't drive much in the evening at that time. They always manage to take out a few telephone poles and they have a ride stop about every three blocks. Pain in the rear.
Lived here for years and never have gone...

Whats the weather doing in October in sunny Canada.

I've been to Oktoberfest in Munich - overly crowded, insufficient facilities, watery beer. Nothing quite like sitting cheek to jowl with 4999 others slamming beers & singing songs. I found the Winefest in Wiesbaden to be much more fun and easier to negotiate. I'd strongly recommend it over the Oktoberfest.

The weather will be gorgeous. Warm sun with a sharp cold feel to the air. The trees will be amazing colours, I'll post a few pics we took last autumn in the pic section. It starts to get a bit frosty. And quite cold at night. We usually also get what's called Indian Summer which means a few days of hot, and humid if we are lucky.

That certainly wasn't my experience there. I was fuckin' blotto after two steins, and it was some of the best beer I've ever had - bar none.

Piss-poor, at best. I can somewhat communicate, albeit by talking with my hands a lot. You'd think I'd know how to speak the freakin' language – I mean, after all, a large portion of my ancestors came from there. OTOH, it's usually not a problem because most Germans can speak English (however, NOT in Bavaria – or even more specifically, anywhere in the Black Forest for that matter).

Illinois is a pretty big mix - mostly Irish and Italian here (and god, how I hate the latter). Wisconsin is the "German" state and that's right to our north. TONS of German people reside there.

I'd been in Germany a little over 2 years by the time I got to hit the Oktoberfest, and since my arrival had completely sworn off American brews. Word was there were 1500 breweries in Germany at the time & I made it a personal goal to sample something from each. When comparing my usual brews - delivered to the house by the beer man, quite similar to the milk man of old in the US - to the beer served there, it was rather watery. That's not saying it didn't do the trick ...
