There was a barber in a small town that had enjoyed a good business for several years there. One day he began thinking... "I'll give back to the community for all of their support through the years".

The first person in the shop that morning was the local florist. The barber gave the man his hair cut and when it was time to pay, the barber said "This one is on the house, my friend. You have arranged and delivered flowers to my wife, parents, children, and friends for years. please accept this as a small thanks"

The next morning there was a dozen roses at the barber shop door. The note read; thanks for the hair cut yesterday.

That morning the Chief of police came in for a trim. After the barber finished, he would accept no payment from the Chief and said "Just a gesture to say thanks for keeping my family and shop safe for all these years"

The next morning there was a thank you note and a "honorary" policeman's badge at the door to the shop.

That morning the local Republican party chairman came in for a hair cut. After the barber finished, he told the man "No cost for you today, I just wanted to thank you for your dedicated work at the Chamber of Commerce and at the political debates"

The following morning there was a thank you note and a certificate of appreciation from the Chamber of Commerce at the shop's door.

The first client that morning was the Chairman of the local Democratic Party. True to form, the barber refused any payment from the man and said "This is just a thank you for all your work with the local ACLU and for the seminars at the college".

The following morning the barber arrived at work to find 12 Democrats lined up for their free hair cut.

I've heard the same joke with 12 lawyers waiting for a haircut. A pretty fair oldie.
