After WW2 the german U boat fleet was ordered to surrender to the British and sail to the RN base at Derry.
The fleet was then scuttled off Malin Head Co Donegal,a team of divers has selected a boat, U 778 to explore with the possibility of salvaging her and bringing her ashore.

I'm not sure if it's possible. The boat sunk 60 years ago, and salt water corrosion isnt going to leave much structural support. It's one thing to surface a wreck after a few years or so, but 60 is a bit of a stretch.

There was a Japanese sub just outside Long beach harbor they tried to bring up 10 years ago. The steel crumbled under the stress, and it was made out of american steel. It still had "Maytag" stamped on the conning tower.

You can't expact Maytag to make a decent washer-dryer, much less a fucking submarine! No wonder it fell apart!

And you think a Mercedes hood ornament is going to help a U-Boat?

You don't fuck with a Maybach 62 with the GUARD B4 Package.

German subs have ''this way up'', welded on them.

It's just amazing what can be done (http://newmedia.scetv.org/hunley/) these days. This was raised after 130 years.

If they ever get to the stage of pulling this U boat up,which I doubt,Id say theres only a couple of people who could do the job.

Theres a Dutch firm in Rotterdam or the US Navy, maybe.
Tho I imagine that it would be the bones of the boat, more than likely,as ride says, the decking plate and skin would be gone.
I wonder if theres any live ammunation lying down there?
