Hey guys, I'm having trouble getting my laptop to read discs. It's kinda weird. Games will play 100% of the time, but DVD's and CD's will only come up half the time I put them in there. And some just wont come up at all. It's pissing me off. I've got a Sony Vaio, with Vista.

If it tends to be the DVD's that are erratic when reading, I would guess that the DVD laser in the optical drive is flaky (I think there is one for each). Of course it could be another problem with hardware/software on the drive also.

You could try reloading the driver in Vista, check Sony's website for driver updates, etc. (basically eliminate a software issue). Also, check the Sony site for a newer version of the notebook's BIOS... may not have anything to do with it, but I have seen stranger things.
