This thread will be used to recap, rant, cheer and jeer your team's victory or loss for the regular season. Good luck to all teams this year, and may the best fan's team win.

The Browns managed to have 4 penalties on one punt. That basically summed up our performance against Pittsburgh.

34-7 at home. Yikes.

The Vikes on week one:

1. Adrian Petersen showing why he was the #7 pick in the draft this year.
2. Defense...Defense...Defense!
3. Tarvaris Jackson made some rookie mistakes in his full season debut, but still protected the ball nicely and looked pretty sharp in some areas. I give him a B for the week.
4. Joey Harrington is going to be feeling those six sacks for the next...well, long time.
5. At least one NFL analyst is beginning to go against the grain of everyone else and say that we have the potential to be a contender.

Purdy damn good way of opening up the season.

For CBL; how many weeks will Crennel have his head stuck up his butt before he makes Quinn the starter?

For CBL; how many weeks will Crennel have his head stuck up his butt before he makes Quinn the starter?

Good question...the fans were chanting for him before the 1st half ended. It probably won't be in the next two weeks because we're still solidifying our offensive line and we're playing Cincinnati and Oakland. (two blitz-heavy defenses...don't want to get the kid killed)

The absolute latest Quinn will start is after our bye week. (week 7) Judging by Frye and Anderson's performance...I'm going out on a limb and saying Quinn's starting week 4.

What's rather depressing is none of my reasoning had anything to do with winning football games. I don't think the Browns are worried about winning, either. You don't lose 34-7 at home to your biggest rivals when you care about winning.

Oh, and how's that Jackson kid in Minnesota? I've heard the Vikes are really sold on him. (didn't a coach/coordinator say he's farther along than McNabb was at a similar stage in his career?)

That's what HC Brad Childress said about Tarvaris Jackson. There's been comparison from some about being the next Michael Vick (minus the dogs) due to his mobility, and that he can also throw the ball.

I love this kid for what he knows he can do and for what he knows he has to work on. He's got a cannon for an arm and is a very accurate passer. The only downside for him is the fact that he comes from Alabama State, a D-1AA team. Commentators and analysts alike have ripped on him because of his inexperience and not knowing how he's going to handle blitzes and what not. He hasn't gotten a lot of respect from NFL analysts either; saying that the team has taken two steps backward by making him the starter, and one commentator going as far as predicting that Childress will begin to think, around mid-season, that starting, even bringing Jackson to the team, was a mistake.

However, the kid's got a good head on his shoulders. He's going to make some rookie-esque mistakes here and there and there will be some growing pains. But his willingness to work on getting better and his determination are what have me sold on the kid. Plus, he knows that he's not going to be fully accepted at camp on the first day, or by the team right away. So what does he do? Throws a barbecue at his home and invites the entire team for an evening of getting to know one another and just good ol' fashioned friendly bantering (I believe he has also done this on many occasions throughout the summer).

He knows he has to work for the position and wants to do all he can to get there. Nothing is going to be handed to him. In short, I'm excited to be seeing Jackson get his chance and truly make something out of it...another reason why I love watching him play.

Just an update on the Browns QB situation...Charlie Frye was traded to Seattle for a 6th rounder and Ken Dorsey is expected to re-sign with the team. I'm sad to see Charlie go, (Cleveland kid and one of my best friends is his cousin) but I'm excited to see Dorsey back who I'm hoping will get the start next week in Cincinnati. He can't do worse than Frye/Anderson...

Travh20
09-11-2007, 01:46 PM
:lolhit: Dorsey. He was a 49er cast off. I have to say though, I always liked him. I wish he was still our third stringer.

Decka

Dorsey would probably fair better than Frye.. rumor has it that he's being brought back in. I'd cut Frye, that guy was horrid against pittsburgh. It's obvious he isn't the future, get rid of him, good riddence.

You all saw the Colts, our D was dominant, our offense was in stride... it's nice to see all the "experts" jump off the Patriots Bandwagon on Friday morning and then jump right back on Sunday afternoon. The Colts looked better than the Pats, the Pats were playing the freakin JETS for crying out loud!

Gee, how thoughtful of you to want to continue the pack/vike banter contest.

Yes you won the game, yes Favre broke the TD record in the last place I ever wanted him to...(Yes John Madden is gonna have an orgy talking about him during this week's pack/bears game)...but otherwise, it's the same ol' packers. *Waits for the team's inevitable crash downward to reality.*

*Waits for the team's inevitable crash downward to reality.*

Well I have to admit that reality is coming whenever we play a team with a pass defense. However, I have to point out that usually the Packers get better as the season goes along. It's the Vikings that start out hot and then blow it.

It's funny how the first four games were supposed to be the easiest and the next 5 games after the bye are supposed to be the hardest, yet the first four teams we faced have a combined record of 9-3 and two of the next five teams are currently 1-3.

Plus, the Vikes are not as bad as their record would suggest. They've outscored their opponents so far this year in total points and two of those three losses have been by only a field goal...the other being a touchdown. Honestly, (as an article I read earlier would suggest), they're not that far away from being a good football team. Hey, the NFL is as unpredictable as any.

I'll agree with you that any team with a pass defense is going to shut down the Pack. Ahman Green left a pretty big hole to fill in the running game.

Kinda like the Browns did--we looked great on our opening drive..then, that IMT by Anderson just kinda took the wind out of our sails.
You cannot expect to win when you give a team like the Pats 4 turnovers.

What's this nonsense the Commish has been jabbering about, how he foresees a Super Bowl being played in London?

This is the silliest dang nonsense I've heard in a coon's age.
Not only can the Limeys care less about our football (they're too busy watching thrilling sports like tiddlywinks, soccer, or the World Hopscotch Competition) but it would cost an absolute FORTUNE for an average fan to go to the game, and it costs enough as it is.

After his record breaking performance, it's safe to say, as long as Peterson doesn't get hurt, that he will win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He is the league's leader rusher at this point and just ran for 296 yards. Plus he is on pace to beat Dickerson's rookie rushing record of 1808. What do guys see of his chances of winning the NFL MVP award as well? I put Brady as the front runner right now, but I'd put Peterson in second.

We at O.U. sure hated to lose him to the NFL, however, best of luck to Adrian!

Brady or Moss should get MVP, it's hard to say who deserves it more as Brady definitely wouldn't have as good numbers without Moss. (and vice versa) AP is a flat out stud though. I feel bad for Chicago's AP who will always be known as the other Adrian Peterson.

Browns are doing great, I don't think the Browns have had such a good offense since Jim Brown. Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards are both on pace to break the Brown's record for most receiving yards in a season. Our defense is plain terrible, (7 total sacks for the year...our secondary isn't much better. We do have nice LBs) but as long as we're winning games I can't complain much. We have a real good shot at the playoffs...here's our remaining schedule:

@ Pittsburgh (6-2)
@ Baltimore (4-4)
Houston (4-5)
@ Arizona (3-5)
@ New York Jets (1-8)
Buffalo (4-4)
@ Cincinnati (2-6)
San Francisco (2-6)

Outside of the Pittsburgh game, we'll be the favorite in every game left in our schedule. With our defense we probably won't win all of them but I think we have a real good chance at going 11-5 or 10-6. I'm excited. :)

I think we'll be the favorite vs. Buffalo as we're at home...that's the toughest non-divisional game left on our schedule. (sorry trav) Unless you're Pittsburgh, AFC North divisional games are generally very competitive, so I'm definitely worried about those 3 games left on our schedule. Hell, even Baltimore who just got punked worries me. And what's with the Bengals/Browns? Remember a couple of seasons ago there was another ridiculously high scoring game? Aren't Crennel and Lewis supposed to be defensive guys? :lolhit:

I predict a loss against Pittsburgh. Those guys have our number, much as I hate to say it. It won't be a big loss tho.

PS If we do make the playoffs, I predict we lose in the first round. Our defense is horrendous. As of today, we rank 30th overall. This guarantees losing and losing a lot...the offense has been carrying us but how long can that keep up? We need D'Quell back.

Agreed. Their offense isn't amazing but it's good enough to expose our porous defense. Also, their defense is definitely good enough to give our offense some problems. I'd imagine we're going to be at least a 7 point underdog and that sounds about right.

Dallas is not going to have a strong opposition for the division. Eagles and skins are all but done and I look for the giants to tumble a bit...however the NFC is the weaker conference and wild card births will be easier to get.. look at the west and south.... the division leaders are at .500
I would say the NFC playoff teams would be Dallas,NY,GB,Detroit,Seattle and tampa...maybe N.O but they need to turn their shit around quick...

AFC I see Pats, steelers,Indy,KC,Titans, maybe jags, maybe browns... Browns definitely have the schedule,to take a wildcard if not the division.

They are explosive. They got a big time threat reciever in Holmes, a cannon arm QB who is accurate, and a big time RB in Parker, who can take it to the house on any play.

I think it'll happen. They have a really tough remaining schedule: Giants, Cowboys, Packers twice. Then they have weird teams like the Chargers, Chiefs, and Vikings where the Lions should be favorites but you can't count out their opponents in any of those games. The only gimme game they have left is against the Cardinals.

I have mixed feelings abot the pats. On one hand I want them to go undefeated so those snobbish '72 dolphins can go shove it, but at the same time I dont like them because they just get so damn lucky! how many teams game is saved by a penalty? on the second 4th down attempt after the Raven time out the pats got stopped behind the line but had a false start so got a 5 yard penalty and got to try again. That is just wrong.

False start should be loss of down on 4th down.

What I would love to see:

Pats (15-0) vs. Dolphins (0-15) in week 16....Dolphins win.

I think the bears only lost one game in 85 and it was to the dolphins. I think, that would be sweet though, and tom brady seperates a shoulder and misses the playoffs.

And on top of that; Randy Moss gets thrown in prison and Bellyshake gets fired. Oh to dream.

Well that explains your mental problems.

Wow, that's good to know. I thought I would hafta write a ten page essay to explain my mental problems but I guess not. I'm a Raiders fan!

Thanks, Bub.

Oh, well I got Adrian Petterson agains the lowly 49ers this week. hell, I may even start AD and Chester Taylor the same week!

Give me Peterson and Gore is yours. Hell, you wanted him so badly at the beginning of the season.

LOL, not any more. Picking AD was the smartest move I made. Usually I would not pick a rookie so high, but I had a feeling he would be a stud.

You're an ass! :) Won't share AD with those who need him most! I hope I run 50+ points on you this week (though with AD running against the niners, yeah, that won't happen...hell, it may be the reverse of 50 on me)!

At what point does Detroit implode? I keep waiting for it, and it's not happening.

Apparently I lack patience.

Kitna's guarantee will fall short, the fans will express their disappointment with the team; and for yet another year, Millen continues to be the laughing stock of all NFL GM's. Yep, it's just another day in Lion-land.

Millen continues to be the laughing stock of all NFL GM's.

If Millen keeps this up, they may only sign him to a mere three year contract extension.

Here are my playoff predictions for this weekend.

Green Bay over Seattle
Giants over Cowboys in an upset

Colts over Chargers, close one tho.
And much as I hate to say it, Pats over J'ville, another close one.

Pretty close!

I demand that Decka sing the praises of Brett Favre and admit he's way better than Peyton.

I knew I'd get some flack from you guys on here, and trust me, after the game was over I got about 10 text messages and 4 phone calls.

However, I'm a man and i'll own up to it... my team lost, fair and square. They had all the chances to win the game and didn't. I won't blame the refs.. but there were weird calls on BOTH teams.

There was a pass interference call that went against the chargers when it appeared the player guilty didn't even touch the reciever.

There was a 23 yard pass to dallas clark nullified by an "illegal hands to the face" call on an OFFENSIVE LINEMAN... a call which I have never seen called before in the NFL. 15 yards, and we had to punt. Instead of being on the Chargers 20 yard line, we were on our own 45.

There was a 3rd down holding call, away from the play, on a Billy Volek bomb to chris chambers that went incomplete... called on the Hayden when he didn't even touch him. That play was huge.

BUT... the colts made their own mistakes. 2 tipped interceptions, and Marvin harrison fumbling the F'n football. That guy KNOWS to tuck the football, i chalked it up to rust, but it sure hurt our momentum. We were up 7-0 and driving, and then they got the ball back and scored. Plus, both of our INT's were in the red zone. So that's at least 6 points left on the field, plus the Dallas clark catch which was penalized.. that's 9 points left on the field, assuming we fail to get in the end zone on 3 trips to the red zone. There is nothing you can really say about the tipped interceptions.. there was a charger in the right place at the right time on both occasions.. and the one guy made a ridiculous one handed catch on the ball.

SO.. that leaves the topic of Peyton Manning. Manning played phenomenal... mostly. The one stat that stood out was that the Colts were 3-11 on 3rd downs. That's not gonna cut it. However, Manning put on an aerial assault for over 400 yards. He is still, in my opinion, the best QB in the league. Did Brady do a lot to move in closer? absolutely. However, Manning doesn't have the benefit of having arguable the best offensive line ever assembled.. and certainly the best in the NFL. Not Brady or Manning's fault.. but you do have to take into account the 12 seconds Brady has to let the D break down and hit welker for 10 yards at least.

Whatever happens from here on in I am happy. The Giants did much better than I expected. If they can't win the ring I hope Greenbay goes all the way.

Yes, let Fav-re win another Super Bowl ring so he can retire, get on with his life, and let my former roommate dish out all the flack through voicemails and texts that I'll be getting from him anyway (he, too, is a packer fan).

On another note, Welcome back, Lionel! Too bad you weren't around much this football season...not that, with you, I would have had much to banter about anyway. :)

Good analysis. I blame the loss on the Colts' lack of pass rush. Where was it?
Rivers wasn't hassled all game, nor was the backup, what's-his-name.

I also blame the loss on the rumors swirling around that Dungy is leaving. It's front page news in these parts. I wish the media had kept quiet about that until after the game.

Dungy says he'll announce his decision by Monday, according to the Indy Star. I for one wish he'd stay. He adds class to the team, something a few of the fans are sorely lacking--like when a few of them booed the little girl who won the Punt, Pass, and Kick contest. They booed because she was wearing a Pats jersey. This was just low-class and an embarrassment to the team and our capital city.

Can't wait for the Giants-Packers game. I'm sure Brett has a few more shovel passes left in him for one last hurrah, but Eli is certainly on a roll. Reason--he finally called his brother for some advice, lol.

I'll probably make a full return after Green Bay's season is over. I'm kinda hoping that's 2.5 weeks from now.
