My gram used to tell me death's angel collects 3 souls at a time.'They always go in 3's' she'd tell me and I've watched, they do.
The grim reaper strolled thru there day before yesterday, took a 42yo woman, and her 21 yo daughter (murder/suicide) and a 34yo man, shot by cops. They all lived on the same road.

For me, it's usually 3 people I know of, that all seem to go right around the same time.
Uncanny enough, growin' yp with Gram, it happened in 3 on the road we lived on many times, one person would die and soon after 2 more would follow.

It's really got me thinking, where did the phrase come from? Anyone else ever heard of it, and has it held true to you?

I've heard it many times too, Imp. However, I think we just stop counting at 3.

Pavoratti (sp?) died yesterday... so the countdown has begun. Wonder who's gonna be next?

Pavorattis the size of 3 guys, so count him as done.
Yes Death comes in 3s here also.

Yes, I've always heard that too and I can remember it happening to me as well.....my nephew, then my dad then my husband's grandmother....all within 6 months of each other....the latter two were within weeks of each other. :(

I am not sure where it originated. It has happened to me; my neighbor, my husband and my uncle all in the same week.

seemed to happen in 4 for me last year
First,2 of my friends were killed in the same motorcycle accident June last year. Then in October one of my best friends died from cancer. Then in December another friend was killed in another motorcycle accident.

This year has seen 2 of my friends pass. In May one to suicide and in July to a car accident.

I believe the saying but I grew up hearing it and never really thought to look into where it originated from

I have heard the phrase all my life too. The thing I have noticed is that a lot of the people that believe in have no set timeline on when these three deaths can occur. I remember when I was younger, when my grandfather died, everyone in the family (well the ones that believed in this magic "three" theory) feared who would come next. A couple of years past before my uncle passed away and then they started fearing for number three.

I sort of agree with SMW, people just stop counting at three....and apparently, start counting over again at 4 - no matter how long it takes to get there.

I hope this is just an wives tail and there is not truth to it. Because for me I would be number three.
My mom, my biological dad and then I got sick.

This something I do think about. OK enough thinking of it though.

You're wrong, Shorty. Pavoratti was #3.

Now it starts over and you ain't even gonna be in the running.

Well I've heard bad luck comes in threes. Never thought much about it until I had one of the worst weeks in my life... counted down the bad luck and wow.... three the magic number... I was safe...

Then whamo, number four hit. I think three is supposed to make you feel safe... kinda don't expect it and it won't happen. But if it's going to happen it will, and numbering it won't change it.

I do have some superstitions but for the most part, I view things more as "cause and effect".

I've only heard the "3" thing applied to celebrities until now. I don't put much stock in it. :)

Not like that, Shorty. It's usually within the same week that I've known it to happen. But like others here said, might of stopped counting at 3.

and yeah Sal, I believe alot of it is cause and effect. The 3 people I was talking about in the 1st post, not a one of them had to die that night. They brought death to themselfs. The only victim was the handicapped girl in the back seat.

I read an article about a nursing home cat,,it was somewhere in America i think !?!

Anyway,,this cat could predict death,,it would sleep in the lounge on a chair but when someone was about to die it was known to go lay on their beds.........

So,,,if u lived in that home all u would have to do is keep your door shut at all times and u would live forever !!! ;)

It was reported here (http://www.dailyredundancy.com/archives/1031.html) that Oscar had kicked the bucket, however, finding a legitimate (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19959718/) source reporting the same has been impossible thus far. It would seem the cat lives.
