10 years ago today, the "People's Princess", Diana Spencer, died in a horrendous wreck in Paris.
I recall the shock I felt when I heard the news. It could not be true. She had just begun a successful anti-land mine campaign and seemed finally free of the demons which had haunted her past--namely, the shabby treatment she received at the hands of the "royal" family, the upstart Windsors.
Yet Diana was not one to go down without a fight. This was a woman who once threw a vase of flowers at Charles' head, knocking him to the floor cold. She also beat him over the head with a bible. She met the Queen on her own terms, not Her Majesty's. She once told Philip, who condescendingly told her that her title could be taken away, that her REAL title was much older than his.
She was human. She reacted to their faultfinding and nitpicking the way most of us would have, if they had any sense. She never lost the love of the people, who saw her as one of their own---"mere English."
God bless you Diana Spencer. I miss you. You were a good woman, kind and brave.

"Prince" Chas started it. He ripped a sink off a wall, threw things, yelled, and once, when staying at Althorp, the Spencer family estate, as a guest, trashed an entire room of furniture.
I say he had it coming, the weasely wimp.

Maybe, but she was just as screwed up.

I miss her too Rendova - she really cared about the people who suffered, whether from Aids, landmines, etc.
I'm pleased the "rotweiller" could not attend her memorial.;)

It doesn't seem that long already, does it? I remember hearing the news with my mother and couldn't believe it. She was a strong woman whose life was ended too soon.

Am I the only one who couldn't stand Diana? In my opinion she was a phony and a troublemaker. Charles should never have married her.
If I never hear her name again or see her picture again it will be fine with me.

No I pretty much think she was psycho and was blown away by all of the public emotional masterbation that took place when she died.
But I do think she had compassion for anyone who was suffering and I think that was very real on her part.
Her death was also untimely and that was a shame.
I believe Charles was forced to marry her and that was a huge mistake made by the royals. Obviously they all lived to regret it. However her kids seem nice and steady. Nobody seems to understand that is likely a tribute to Charles.
*shurg* oh well...

C'mon, guys, that's not fair. Seeing as William and Harry are second and third in line to the throne, I'm sure extensive tests were done on those boys to prove paternity.
Also Diana freely admitted she was deeply in love with Charles and never strayed until things became so intolerable for her--this being after the birth of Harry.
As for Charles, he was a cheater from the get go. He has been a good father to the boys, tho.
PS. Can't
wait for Charles' coronation! what a thrill it will be seeing the noble kingly prince toddle up the aisle at Westminster drooling, cackling, and stumbling over his walker.

C'mon, guys, that's not fair. Seeing as William and Harry are second and third in line to the throne, I'm sure extensive tests were done on those boys to prove paternity. hehe, yeah I know but it is just so much fun to be a Diana basher. People get totally pissed off. For real.
She was a young girl, in over her head, coming into a marriage with someone who didn't love her nor want her. That was not her fault, nor was it Charles fault. It was the system they came out of. They were what they were and had to do what they were told.
She was all caught up in a fantasy. Someone should have set her straight while she was growing up. They didn't because like the typical aristocratic sphere she came out of she was not raised by her parents but by hired help too afraid to be real. She did not feel loved. She was anorexic and bulimic to begin with.
Why do all Diana lover's feel the need to bash the rest of the royals?
It becomes equally sickening as well as this god worship they give her. She is not physically beautiful yet I hear that all the time. She was a lovely looking girl with deep problems. I do not feel the need to revere her.
Also Diana freely admitted she was deeply in love with Charles and never strayed until things became so intolerable for her--this being after the birth of Harry. True
As for Charles, he was a cheater from the get go. He has been a good father to the boys, tho. That is what they do because they can not be with the one they wish to be. It is an accepted part of their culture. Just because others do not understand it, so what. He loved Camilla not a wispy little princess. Camilla is entirely different from Diana. She is salty and brash and tough. Not a delicate little flower. He wanted her. Philip said no. Do as daddy says.
At least he finally grew a set and got the one he wanted. I am glad for him.
PS. Can't
wait for Charles' coronation! what a thrill it will be seeing the noble kingly prince toddle up the aisle at Westminster drooling, cackling, and stumbling over his walker He'll never be king.

You make some good points, Sal. It's true, it was an arranged marriage. Several of the Queen's court predicted trouble.
Why do people like Di?
My theory is that the world needs a princess. We need fairy tales now and then. In a way, Diana was a come to life Cinderella. She used to scrub floors and scour pans. She felt unwanted and unloved. We were rooting for her, we wanted the handsome prince to whisk her away to the palace and they all live happily ever after.
Perhaps it could have been that way if Camilla had played the gentleman and bowed out. But she desired power too much whereas Diana, truly aristocratic, did not. She merely wanted a happy home, a family, and a nice hubby who'd love her. What most of us desire, I guess.
I believe Charles will be king but his parvenue family is long lived. The Queen mum lived to be 101 and there's no doubt the Queen will reign a good many years to come. This will make Chas an ancient when he's crowned but hopefully his reign will be short and handsome Wills, tall, blond and kingly, and his mother's son, a gentlemanly Englishman, will take the throne.
Personally, i don't necessarily dislike royalty. But THIS royal family I have no use for. They've shown themselves, with the sole exception of the Queen, time and again, to be cold, uncaring, rude, uneducated, and completely out of touch with modern times. The Queen actually wanted the people to pay for Windsor when that palace burned down----and had not paid a cent in taxes for years. They actually have a mindset that they are God's chosen, ruling by divine right. And it shows.
PS You'd think maybe after 10 years people would forgive Camilla, or at least cut her some slack. But they have not and especially, William has not. Diana was his mother after all.

We were rooting for her, we wanted the handsome prince to whisk her away to the palace and they all live happily ever after. Actually ren, you are right, that is why they love her. I think though we are the last generation that will have that type of fantasy. The coming generations will have something akin to it but more space age I think.
Also when I read that I thought of the irony of the whole thing. I mean it could have been perfect except that real life intrudes. Her dysfunction and his dysfunction married. Could anything but sadness ever have come out of that? I don't think so as the whole "royalty" thing was on the cusp of change. It had hidden from the world and protected itself well, but it had to emerge. Everything had begun to emerge and thus evolve.
There is no "divine right of kings" any more. There is only the "divine right of me". And perhaps their marriage and it's deterioration was sort of the symbolic falling apart of that whole world.
Perhaps it could have been that way if Camilla had played the gentleman and bowed out. But she desired power too much whereas Diana, truly aristocratic, did not. She merely wanted a happy home, a family, and a nice hubby who'd love her. What most of us desire, I guess Honestly ren, I do not think what Camilla did would have mattered in the least. Charles loved her. And I think his rebellion against the royals and tradition had already begun. He was caught between two worlds. He was in some ways the ultimate sacrifice as was Diana.
Cripe yeah, these people have genes like the Eveready bunny. We need to dissect them. :D
PS You'd think maybe after 10 years people would forgive Camilla, or at least cut her some slack. But they have not and especially, William has not. Diana was his mother after all. Some have, and some never will. I can understand William being investing in holding on to it. I guess in a way the public too have their right as the royals are supposed to be their leaders and as such are "supposed to present in some lofty way".
Ultimately however it doesn't matter as others do not have to live in their psyche or wrestle with the demons in their soul. They too are only human and all will pass away and have to deal with the choices they made.

I think Harry is way hotter than William. Then again, I've always liked redheads... They are just adorable. :D
Maybe Charles will die early-ish and then William can be king... I heard he and Kate Middleton are back together. She'd make a good queen.

I have always felt bad for Prince William and Prince Harry. They are both handsome, each in their own way, but I think William is hotter then Harry, Harry is a trouble maker.
I do agree with you about Kate Middleton, I think she would make a good queen also.

Charles will never ascend to the throne. Queen Elizabeth knows he's a bumbling fool and IMO that's why she's stayed on the throne as long as she has - waiting for the oldest grandson to grow into the position.

I could never see Charles on the throne, I would not want to, and I believe you are right, es347fan, neither would the Queen.
It's no wonder you like Prince Harry then, DarkFantasy96! LOL.
