I think the old horror movies were better than the new ones. The new ones tend to be more in the mode of slasher movies where there is lots of gore. There is really very little suspense in them, just a lot of half naked women and buckets of blood.
In the older movies there was anticipation that got greater and greater as the movie went on. I don't mean pleasant anticipation but the anticipationthat something bad was going to happen. Think Psycho.

True, The Hitchcock movies were top notch. My favorite was Rear Window with Jimmy Stewart. Some of the newer ones are not bad though, I particularly like Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and 28 Days Later. I'm not a big fan of the teen "slasher" flicks... but they are not targeted for me anyways.

IMO, you just can't beat a good Dracula movie.

I agree that Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and 28 Days Later were all exceptional. But then anything Anthony Hopkins does (Silence of the Lambs) is exceptional. Check out Fractured if you like him. It is great. I do not think these movies are horror however. I would think they are actually in the thriller genre.

Absolutely. The old horror ones often had almost no blood. One of the best I think was called hm, I think maybe The Innocents and was based on the book The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. That movie can still chill me. At the end you are uncertain as to which are truly the evil ones.

Can't beat half-naked women and buckets of blood, if you ask me.
That said, I loved The Shining... And I adore vampire movies, which tend to be less gory than most serial killer type flicks, although no less full of sexual overtones and half-naked chicks.

What about Carrie? Nothing beats a chick getting doused in blood and then setting a gymnasium full of people on fire...must be great in bed, IMO.
