I'm Cheyanne, Chey for short. I was on another forum called Sleeping Awake but it has died out. One of the posters there sent me a link here.
I am looking for some interesting discussions, some debate and fun.
I love the smileys.

Hi there. Nice to meet you... Not sure what type of debate your looking for but the political area is always hot. If you lean to the left you will have alot of intelligent allies... If you lean to the right you will have to debate a little harder, but it is worth it. Watch out for dop and the aliens.....

Not necessarily true... I suppose at the moment there are more liberals among the very active posters, but the right has some extremely intelligent representatives and good debaters here. Plus I think we have a good mix of moderates, leaning both ways. :)

You realize that there is no dichotomy between "left" and "right".

I like to believe that. I really do.. but when I am fighting for my life on the political boards I kinda dont see it here.... It is true though there are alot of intelligent left leaners here.... The main core of right leaners here tend to be a little nuts...

Not really, the left here has plenty of nuts. The main right leaners are Brooks, Prae, moderate is getting to be a regular now, Darth Be'lal. (where's he been?)
Anybody I missed? Waldo and gmsisko don't usually post this much so I left them out.

It my limited observation I would say your core values and believes would tip a bit the the right, but you have a strong discord for the conditions of both policitical parties these days and tend to stay in the middle.... swooping in on either side whenever you get the urge.

I'm not looking for a "boy toy", Napsterbater, but thank you anyway.
I'm not sure what I am looking for at the moment. My husband passed away and I do get lonely and wish I had companionship, but I'm not sure I am even ready for that.
I have tried on online dating service once but that was a nightmare.

Thank you for the welcome BorgHunter and that is good to know, LiquidFork.
I did read the Political forum here but a few of the posters were involved in a very heated argument in the threads I did read.
I would prefer not to get into the kind of debates where it escalates to threats.
Is that common here?

Haha... Oh yes, the discussions get quite heated. You can post in the politics section and still stay out of that pretty easily though; I generally do.

Heheh, you should give the boy toy thing a shot, even if it's not with me. Keeping a guy around for fun and sex can be a very uplifting thing for all concerned, and help you face forward again and get your priorities in gear and all that. If you're not sure if you're ready or not, the only way to find out is to jump on in and see! If you're not, it'll make itself known soon enough. You seem like the type of girl that gets approached a lot by men. Pick the one that seems like the most fun, outgoing, and easy to talk to. Avoid the ones that seem like wusses. Trust me, they cause trouble. Send me a PM if you're having trouble keeping it fun and light, and I'll be glad to assist.

Don't worry. I'll watch out for ya! Anybody even thinks about lifting a typing finger against you, I'll be all over him/her like stink on a dog! I'm the biggest pooch in this pound.
I liked your philosophy post, even if I didn't respond. I've been rather preoccupied lately, and haven't had the patience for such a tough topic as the nature of free will. By all means keep posting!

Lol, thank you for the relationship advice, Napsterbater, but it isn't needed. I am new to the dating scene, it has been a few years, but I do know what I am looking for in a guy, and I do know a "boy toy" isn't it.
I did try to get back into the dating game and the approach I took didn't work, I know I'll meet the right person when it's time and it will work.
It does tie on with my "Fate and Freewill thread" to a small extent, but I am not actively seeking out a relationship and neither am I being closed minded about it. I'm am going to adopt the philosophy, "It will happen when it happens" and not worry about it.

LMAO!
Thank you but I decline, I don't need or want your "internet protection" against typed words, lol, that is not what I was referencing and I have the capability to easily ignore it.
I was implying when it is taken off the internet into real life. I see no need for an agruement to escalate to the point of wanting to fight it out in real life time.
I have read a few stories of it happening, and I know there will always be a difference in opinions but to get so upset about it and actually go out of your way to hurt someone over it is it, well, asinine, in my opinion.
Thank you DarkFantasy96, I will follow your lead and avoid the heated arguments.

I would say for your age you have been through alot more than your peers. Your family life is not typical and that probably made you mature alot quicker than most people your age. I also think at times your not sure who you are (and at your age your not really sposed to know) and your journey to "finding yourself" will be alot more interesting than most others.
How was that?

Pretty accurate. I judge each issue on its own, and I tend to lean left on about the same number of issues on which i lean right. Although there are many issues about which I'm conflicted. I like the politics section mostly because of what I learn from it. I have no desire to participate in arguments or flame-fests, but I've found that since I've started posting here my political views have evolved quite a bit and I've been exposed to more opinions and all the sides of each argument. :)

Welcome to the forums, Cheyanne. Sorry to hear about your husband, though. We here tend to try to help each other out in bad situations, so feel free to talk about anything, that's what we're here for.

It's never an easy feeling, nor is there a quick way out. I felt the same way when I lost a long time, elementary school friend to suicide during our senior year of High School. Again, a long process of dealing and acceptance.
Once again, I'm sorry for the loss.

Hi, Gimp.
I think its great that you have a sense of humor about your disability. When bad stuff happens you can either whine about it or treat it as a cosmic joke. I know that in my case the cosmic joke route seemed the better way to go.
What exactly is your disability?
We have people here at Allforums who have various problems, some not so serious and some quite serious and posters tend to be quite sympathetic and supportive.

Hey, Frogger, thanks for the message...you are so right, it is one big cosmic joke, only mine has been going on since 1994 and I'm getting a little tired of it..just as one thing starts to get a little better something else happens..latest was knee surgery last week but that was so minor compared to the rest it's hardly worth mentioning...and you? I spent 25+ years in mortgage/capital markets (wall street) arena before I was sidelined and now I am permanently disabled and home all day...amazing how fast they go..What do you do?

Gimp,
I pretty much do whatever I want. My wife and I are both retired educators. I spent years in the classroom and really loved it but then I got throat cancer, actually cancer of the vocal cords and lost my voice aloong with my vocal cords and half my larynx. I tried teaching with a lavalier microphone but felt it was unfair to the students I was teaching so I went back to school evenings and summers and became an administrator in charge of elementary and middle school science for one of New York's largest school districts. Besides the time I spent in my office I traveled to nine elementary schools, four middle schools and two kindergarten centers giving demonstration lessons and working with new teachers and teachers who were not really up to snuff. I also wrote curriculum, ran the testing program, wrote grants and ordered materials. It allowed me to still have contact with students without constantly straining my voice.
I now speak in a hoarse whisper. It is most handicapping when I am playing golf. My voice isn't strong enough to yell four so now when I hit an errant ball I simply yell three at the top of my whisper.

Mine started with having my shoulders crushed while boarding an Avis van to pick up my rent car in Michigan (I was working for a company based there and commuting because I told them I wouldn't move and I guess they wanted me bad enough so they took me anyway) and the driver closed the doors on me...well they are not like elevator doors..it took two big burly guys to open them, then she finally came back to see what had happened but didn't bother to put on the brake! So she runs up front and slams on the break, throwing me down on the isle, hiting my right shoulder on the metal arm handle and knocking my LARGE suitecase over my right arm...ended up with permanent nerve damage to C-5,6,7; both shoulders, 2 surgeries to right one, about a year of IV drips 3 times a week for the pain, and a ton of physical therapy. I continued to work thru most of this but the company down sized in 1995 and I was about to have my 2nd surgery so the timing was right to "retire"...just as things were getting normal, I starting fainting, and wouldn't you know, the one time I had no warning, my left foot was under my kitchen counters so I crushed my ankle. Long story short...6 surgeries later I have a fake ankle (that was surgery 4) then had 2 after it, bone graft and removal of some metal left in that became infected. Had a cast on it this summer because the tendons are trying to tear apart. Had my knee operated on (other leg) for cartledge removal...doc said it was a mess..guess it was trying to do double duty...was pronounced permanently disabled dec. 2003. Bummer..Sorry about your cancer...have they caught it all? Did you smoke?...as I light up...
