It may just be me, but I see a disturbing trend here on allforums.
It seems that we have generally become a troll state instead of a discussion forum. Gone are the days of debate on an issue. New threads, mainly in politics and religion areas are not aimed at sparking debate, but at trolling for negative reactions.
Posting links to videos that demean a faith or a person (GW's daughter? what has she to do with anything?) seem to be the norm now. It's troll time at the OK corral. If you post defamitory, non-pertinent crap that does nothing to inspire discussion/debate... then you are only a troll. Frogger's ban is a direct result of this. He apparently grew tired of this sort of posting and said something to the instigator. I know that there is no love loss between he and Vile, but this will be an all too common occurence if the forums continue this way. I know I'm guilty of responding to these posts myself, but I long for some discussion here and I guess shit slinging is better than nothing (not-really, I'm just trying to make myself feel better).
We are better than this guys/gals. We have too many people with great discussion points and meaty knowledge/wisdom to continue down this path.
I don't know exactly what needs to be done to fix this (not my job :) ), but I do think that it may need a bit-o-repair.
/gets off soapbox and returns to dark corner.... ahhhh.... home again.

You gotta make your own fun on allforums. If you don't like what's currently being done, you can do the entire forum a favor and make a thread doing what you want to do. If it gets popular, more people will do it. There's been plenty of people over the years making threads complaining about the "horrible state of AFN." None of it solves anything. Be an example, not a complainer.

OP, I understand and appreciate your concerns, but it's a very difficult thing to say what is "trolling" and what isn't at times.
Frogger's ban is a direct result of this. He apparently grew tired of this sort of posting and said something to the instigator.
Which got him a warning. It wasn't the reason he was banned for three days.

With all due respect OP, you have no idea how I feel about Frogger, so it's probably best not make erroneous assumptions.
I know I'm guilty of responding to these posts myself, but I long for some discussion here and I guess shit slinging is better than nothing (not-really, I'm just trying to make myself feel better).
But see OP, you don't engage in shit-slinging and that's a good thing. Have you ever felt it necessary to step into a thread and call the author, or another poster a name without even addressing the topic of the thread? Doubtful. Pretty sure I haven't done that either in a little over 8,000 posts. As a poster, and as a moderator, I feel it's not too much to ask that the other posters also refrain from this kind of behavior, regardless of how they feel about another post, or another poster.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I understand that. The mods are not in an enviable situation.

No I understand it was the response to the warning that did it. I'm not taking sides here.

You are correct, I have only seen Frogger's comments regarding moderation, not your opinions of each other personally. I should have said "Frogger apparently has no love loss for Vile's moderation"

I have posted some things that would probably fit in that category (unfortunately). I tend to want to defend certain people/beliefs/opinions more than I should. My wife calls me a "mother hen" sometimes... and she is much wiser than I.
I guess I just needed to vent a little. Nappy's right, I'll try to post some good debate subjects (and try to ignore the trollish ones).

These sorts of threads crop up every couple of months. They solve nothing. It's not getting worse here; it's always been like this.
