One of the nation's self annointed preachers one half of the do-nothng, bitch about everything duo (http://www.showbuzz.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/19/people/main3182596.shtml)has said it is OK for Don Imus to return to the broadcast booth. Isn't he generous?

My favorite line, from the story:

"...he should commit in his contract to forgo any racist, sexist or homophobic comments, Sharpton wrote..."

Sharpton should commit to the same.

Why, that's awwwwffuuulll gracious of him!

Maybe now he will petition for the good name, college experience, and sport season for the Duke lacrosse players that he helped destroy. They were surely guilty..... Doh!

hmmmmm.... never did see him apologize for that....

What a fine man.

Awesome thread title, Es. Reminds me of the 1976 Clint Eastwood flick, "The Enforcer," when a black militant character offers to ensure that his female partner "won't get lonesome" while there are "panthers" present, and Dirty Harry responds with "Well, that's mighty white of you."

Classic cinema at it's best.

Until all this Don Imus stuff happened, I had no idea the man even existed. Yay for living in BFE!

Anyway, I like how they're going to, somehow, determine if his apologies were true if he were to come back. An apology is only as good as the words used to describe it. Kinda like Sharpton going on a diet by eating only ice cream.

I had no idea who he was either, SB... and I live in the big city. (Well, OK, it is Texas and it IS the biblebelt, so not all that surprising.)

Heard one of the girls he insulted is suing him for defamation and loss of future wages. So I guess if he goes back to radio, he better set aside some time (and $$$) for court.

Before she got her 5 seconds of Imus induced fame, nobody knew who the hell she was & they still don't. Quickly now, name any members of whatever team it was that Imus singled out - without resorting to a search window.

Maybe people will finally realize that there WAS NOTHING RACIST ABOUT WHAT DON IMUS SAID... unless of course you are LOOKING for racism. I don't condone people making fun of others for the most part, but he said it as a joke, and it is probably the single most blown out of proportion story of the year.

Don't yell at ME, Es. I was just passing along what I heard on the news.

Hell, I didn't know HIM before all this started.

;)

P.S. to Decka... that's a stretch, darlin. Nappy-hair doesn't usually apply to Asians.

Didn't realize I was yelling at anyone - I was merely trying to support your statement with more of the same. Remember - I'm the one who began the thread. Sorry if you felt offended.

Heard one of the girls he insulted is suing him for defamation and loss of future wages. I love those gals and think Imus is trash. But, having said that, her suing for loss of future wages is insane. First of all, how will they be projected for calculation? Second, how do this idiot's comments and bringing you attention for your work ethic, successes, character under fire and quiet dignity negatively impact future earnings?

(Well, maybe the last two are somewhat tarnished now that you look like a greedy opportunist. Sorry, but that's how it looks from here.)

I want to know how someones character is tarnished by calling them nappy headed. If it wasnt for him no one would of ever head of her. I guess if there is a way to get rich off of someone else it is the AMERICAN way to take advantage of it.

Only mine. It's a pretty damn good compliment to give someone, if you ask me!

I have listened to Don Imus for over thirty years beginning with his first radio show, Imus In The Morning. His schtick is making outrageous statements. He once did an entire program on a special God Paint that you could use to paint your house. God couldn't see through this paint so you could sin all you wanted inside your house without God knowing about it. He also did a long running routine on Billy Sol Hargis, a takeoff on Billy Sol Estes. Those older posters might remember Estes as the man involved with fraud, murder and Lyndon Johnson who he accused of also being involved with fraud and murder.

CBS knew how outrageous Imus was when they hired him. They gave him free rein to say whatever he wanted. That is until Al Sharpton scared them and they thew Don Imus to the wolves.

I couldn't agree more.

One of the girls suing him for for defamation and *loss of future wages* is f-ing ludicrous.

I agree that the girls shouldn't sue Imus but it's known in America we sue for the stupidest shit.
