I bet there were wars before that cost less lives. There has to be, there have been a lot of wars.

I think 3700 is rather huge figure for modern wars, especially if we are talking about the United States. But there are no wars without loss. I hope those guys knew what they died for..

I hope they didn't know.

The forcible taking control of certain reserves of Middle Eastern oil is a very sad and unworthy thing for American soldiers to be dying for.

The fatcats in the oil business --like Cheney and his ilk-- who want to reap immense profits from the control of Middle Eastern oil can take THEIR fat asses over there and risk their lives for it.

Who gives a flying f how many people were killed in previous wars?

What's the threshold for this one? 10K, 25K, 50K ... a cool mil ... ?

That's the question none of the flag wavers will answer.

You bring up a good point. More important than the absolute number of casualties is the number of casualties that is acceptable.

Unfortunately, that number is likely to keep going up, whether we're there or not.

And is likely to remain completely inaccurate anyhow.

If only some Liberal News rag could cite the number of

That is only counting soldiers.
If you add in all the American civilian contractors who have been killed the number is closer to 6000.

Apparently your memory is faulty.

Apparently you forgot that someone who was sending biological weapons through the mail to our elected representatives, after 9-11, remains at large.

FT.. gee I didn't know you sat at the dinner table with ol Dick Cheney and got him to drink enough merlot to admit that he is "using" our troops for oil money... wow you have connections!

There is no "threshold"... just a fact. This IS the least deadly war on record.

And wow if I didn't know better, the way people talk on here Bush is ripping 20 year old kids out of their beds in the night, stuffing a hat on their head and a gun in their hand, and dropping them off in the middle of Iraq....

Finally.. the fact the civilians will die whether we are there or not is absolutely true... and it will continue to be inflated by the left.

HEADLINE: NUMBER OF CIVILIAN CASUALTIES BECAUSE OF IRAQ WAR NOW UP TO 2,000,000,000!!!

I'd like to see the counter over there.. the guy who counts all the dead bodies, how they died, and if they were innocent civilians or picked up a gun and started firing on american soldiers because their extremist dad told them to.

"The left" aren't the ones who the count the casualties, so they're not the ones who would inflate them. What some on the left might do, however, is misrepresent the numbers.

the fact is NOBODY counts the numbers.. it is impossible to konw how many people have died over there. How do you tell the difference between a terrorist and a civilian? They dress the same. My guess is that they took a small portion of Iraq where violence is the most, counted the deaths that in ANY WAY POSSIBLE could be RELATED to the war in Iraq, and probably included car accidents, heart attacks, or terrroist attacks of any kind which had nothing to do with the U.S., in the span of a week period when the violence was at an apex... and then just added that up over the entire area of Iraq and assumed that amount of violence occurred for the entire time we have been over there.....

that is how those numbers come about.. someone with an agenda puts it in an article.. and then people like FT, dop, and dharma take it as gospel when they don't even know how the numbers came to be...

Same way with "Illegal Aliens" -- who really counts them? And if someone does count, why don't they just snatch them up and deport them??

Truth is NOBODY counts them and the figures thrown around are simply guesses. In fact, since the last amnesty deal was given in 1986 (or was it 84?), for there to be over 14 million illegals in this country right now, something like 1400 would have to cross the border every single DAY. (numbers may not be exact... but they're close, somebody else can do the math if they're so inclined)

So, if one day it was storming and everybody just stayed home in Mexico, the next day, 2800 people would have to cross illegally to keep up the pace.

Don't know how many of you have actually traveled across the US/Mexico border, but I have my doubts 1400 people a DAY manage to make that trip without getting caught.

Inflate the numbers... inflate the outrage. It's a radical's dream come true.

Give me a team of accurate sharpshooters and let me plant some claymore mines in a few key areas, and I'll tell you exactly how many try to cross our border daily. The problem is, they EXPECT us to welcome them with open arms for doing nothing more than breaking our law - a law set up to PROTECT AMERICANS (and it's not as if "border control" is a novel concept here, but I digress).

You know, that's the funny part; Mexicans look at us like we're the bad guys, and it's THEIR government that sucks. Go figure.

Oh, well - it's nothing that couldn't be solved with a few well-trained snipers, some antipersonnel mines, and a few determined Americans who don't like cheapening what it is to be a citizen.
